Respected sir,

                  I am student of international institute of information 
technology-kolkata.I am participating in RED HAT SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST 
organised by IIIT-BOMBAY and RED HAT itself.
I am in search of valuable ideas and application on which it it is worth to 
work on.I have opted for embedded Linux as area of developement.
                                                      Kindly advice me some 
areas or application on which we can work.I would be obliged for your help.

Well, ELKS still lacks of non-text components, such as sound and graphics; the easiest thing coming to my mind is the support for MIDI peripherals.

Otherwise, if you like the very hard way, you could port linux on new devices..  what about putting uclinux on the BayNetworks routers ?
