Here the question of the day.
Besides Slackware our there any other distros that use
a BSD style start RC scripts? Redhat, Debain, Mandrake ( and Solaris)
all use SysV init script the key being Slack/BSD start up script are
all located in /etc/rc.d.
And Redhat,Debian, Mandrake store scripts in /etc/rc.d and use
symbolic links to /etc/init.d and /etc/rc[0-6].d
And SystV also used a /etc/network(RH: /etc/sysconfig) directory to store network related config files.

AFAIK Slack is the most BSD-ish of the Linux distros.
If you really want to learn BSD, get a BSD.
FreeBSD is a good place to start. I myself have it on one of my boxes and
am tinkering with it.
I am quite impressed with the Ports collection in particular.
I am still a padawan when it comes to BSD for sure, but it's fun and
interesting to learn it.
