Hiya,
I have configured my sound card with sndconfig. And
it gets configured properly everytime I do that. Only
problem is, even though I have installed the mpg/mp3
rpm provided by xmms, because RH 8 doesnt come with
inbuilt mp3 support, xmms repeatedly gives errors of
wrong configuration of the soundcard.
Another interesting thing that happens is, whenever
I pause xmms, there's a little beep that sounds and
then no sound is heard. When I try to reconfigure the
sound card, it refuses telling me that /dev/dsp device
is busy. This can only be overcome by rebooting.
Whats wrong? and if something is wrong, what should
I do?
  Thanks a lot in advance,
  Neon.

Hi,

	The command :

	lsof /dev/dsp

will tell you what has got hold of the sound card (if anything).
