This series adds Tsunami/Typhoon system-error diagnostics and Clipper
ES40 environmental reporting. It applies to v7.3-rc1 on Alpha for-next
at 33465f6ab697.

Thanks to Matt Turner for the v6 review. His Reviewed-by tags are carried
on patches 1 and 2 from v5 and patch 3 from v6. Patches 1-3 have no code
changes since v6.

Changes since v6:
- Drop v6 patch 6, "alpha: stop on fatal Tsunami system ECC and write
parity errors", as agreed with Matt. The panic policy will be handled
separately; v7 focuses on reporting and acknowledgment improvements
without adding a new panic path.
- Remove the duplicate irq_regs.h include and the trailing blank line.
- Gate full register dumps for correctable system errors on verbose
machine-check reporting; retain their error decode and always show
  registers for uncorrectable system errors.
- Document that PERRMASK gates new PERROR latching (HRM 10.2.5.7), and
that the ECC field selection does not establish mixed-error ordering.
- Retain conservative SERR transaction suppression: HRM 8.8.2.6 leaves
address/command undefined whenever SERR is set, with no stated exception
for combined errors. This differs from the suggested SERR-only check.
- Remove the redundant environmental silent pass and always-true condition.
- Treat SMIR bit 0 as raw context, using fault mask 0x14. It stayed set
after PSU reconnection on the ES40, so do not label it a current failure.
- Print the recorded CPU ID for processor console subpackets.
- Bound Clipper console-log traversal by the HWRPB byte count. Preserve
the firmware pointer on unknown or truncated records and dump at most
  1 KiB of raw data. Acknowledge only after a complete termination packet;
  no class-5/type-4 layout is assumed.

Deferring panic policy preserves the existing continuation behavior; it
is not a claim that continuing is safe after an uncorrectable error.
Acknowledging a latch does not repair corrupted data. A follow-up needs
to consider CPU-detected ECC, Pchip UECC, RDPE/PERR, previously latched
errors, firmware masks and the impact of a device asserting PERR#.
In particular, HRM 8.8.2.3 says erroneous PIO read data is returned as
received; it does not establish an automatic CPU 670 for that case.

PERRMASK is left as firmware configured it. A zero mask bit prevents new
latching but does not establish that previously latched status is cleared.
SMIR polarity/latching, inverted halt/reset bits, other-board firmware
layouts and successful nonempty console-log decoding remain unverified.
Console-log scanning remains restricted to Clipper; ambiguous console
environmental records remain raw.

Testing:
- Native ASan/UBSan tests pass with CONFIG_VERBOSE_MCHECK enabled and
disabled, including runtime verbosity selection, SERR with other bits,
mixed ECC/PCI decoding, processor subpacket CPU IDs and the new SMIR mask.
- The observed v6 PSU state sequence was replayed synthetically: individual
failure reports remain visible and the final state reports no recognized
fault bits while preserving raw SMIR=1. This is not a v7 hardware test.
- V7 tip vmlinux builds pass with W=1 and GCC 15.0.1 for GENERIC,
DP264, SHARK and EIGER using minimal configurations. No warnings in
touched files; logs contain unrelated kernel-doc warnings and the
saved_config COMMON-symbol modpost warning. These are not per-patch
  or ES40 deployment builds.

V6 was boot-tested on my ES40 with GENERIC_ENTRY enabled. Unplugging and
reconnecting PSU AC power produced code 206 notifications: PSU 1's
individual failure indication cleared and its enabled indication returned,
while SMIR bit 0 remained set in all three reports.

V7 was built and boot-tested on my AlphaServer ES40. Basic CPU, memory
and file I/O checks passed with no new kernel messages or kernel taint.

Matt built all six v6 patches for GENERIC, DP264, SHARK and EIGER with
W=1 and GCC 16.2.0 (24 builds), with no warnings in touched files, and
booted its GENERIC tip on QEMU Clipper to root mounting. These results
apply to v6; they do not establish machine-check or manual-layout coverage.

Move the existing handler and PCI error clearing helpers without changing
their behavior. Build the error objects for ALPHA_TSUNAMI so that all
Tsunami configurations, including non-generic Shark, can use them.

The ES40 Service Guide, Table D-19, documents a correctable frame with
its system area at 0x58 and total size 0x80. The existing EV6 decoder
interprets system words as extended CPU registers and reads past its end.
This establishes the layout for ES40; whether Titan and Nautilus PALcode
also emits this short frame has not been verified.

Validate the processor area before decoding it and only print extended
registers when present. Preserve rejected frames with a raw dump rather
than trusting their invalid offsets. Cap the dump at 1 KiB and round down
to complete quadwords. This still relies on firmware supplying an
accessible frame of its advertised size; the cap is not pointer validation.

Decode PCI and ECC transactions separately, honor invalid transaction
information, and select Pchip errors using the logout summary. Report
master aborts without importing Titan-specific dismissal policy.
Delegate processor vectors to the bounded EV6 decoder.

Capture live PERROR and MISC before acknowledging their defined W1C
bits and report live status absent from the saved frame. Leave PERRMASK
unchanged. HRM revision 4.0, Table 10-42 marks bit 9 reserved (MBZ/RAZ);
remove the obsolete RTO definition and reserve its bitfield position.

Use the system vector and frame bounds without restricting the reason
code to the ES40 values. Preserve invalid frames and unknown environmental
layouts in bounded raw dumps. Restore CPU register output for system
errors, including the PC needed to diagnose NXM. For correctable system
errors, gate the register dump on CONFIG_VERBOSE_MCHECK and
alpha_verbose_mcheck while retaining the error decode.

HRM 10.2.5.7 states that a cleared PERRMASK bit prevents the corresponding
PERROR bit from being set, including by PERRSET. This does not establish
firmware's mask value or clear a previously latched error. Leave firmware's
mask untouched and report snapshots as live state, not proof of which
transaction caused the current vector.

Keep transaction information unavailable whenever SERR is set: HRM
8.8.2.6 gives no exception for SERR combined with another error. Follow
Table 10-42's ECC interpretation for CRE/UECC and document that combined
ECC/PCI bits do not reveal error ordering.

Do not retain expected-probe handling: its only Tsunami writer is under
the undefined NXM_MACHINE_CHECKS_ON_TSUNAMI. New fatal-error policy is deferred
to a follow-up; reporting and acknowledgment do not establish recovery.

Restrict ES40 live environmental decoding to Clipper. Honor print control,
validate bounds and masks, and separate fault bits from status context.
Report valid notifications even when no recognized fault bits are set,
so door-closed and supply-return notifications are not silently discarded.
Do not infer a recovery transition from a single status snapshot.

Keep SMIR bit 0 and inverted halt/reset bits as raw context. During the
ES40 PSU cable test, bit 0 remained set after the individual PSU failure
indication cleared. Its polarity/latching is unverified, so do not call
it a current PSU failure. Use mask 0x14 for the remaining SMIR faults.
Remove the redundant silent first pass now that every valid environmental
notification is reported. Include the CPU ID for processor console frames.
Use plain door-status messages without the manual's "Set =" prefix.
Dump unknown or truncated environmental frames raw.

Register bounded console decoders from the error file, but keep the PCI
init hook and console-log invocation in sys_dp264.c, as Titan does.
Limit console-log scanning to Clipper pending older-board firmware tests.
The ES40 boot and QEMU Clipper test do not establish that nonempty console
logs are safe on DS10, DS20 or XP1000 firmware.

Print console environmental packets raw: ES40 Table D-18's sys_offset
conflicts with its field offsets. Actual SRM records are still needed.
Terminate annotation arrays and reject invalid packet bounds/revisions.

Use a Clipper-only console scanner bounded by the HWRPB log length.
Check wrapper fields and each child extent before decoding; reject
unsupported wrappers, including the class-5/type-4 record seen on ES40.
Retain the firmware log pointer if parsing is incomplete, and print up
to 1 KiB of raw bytes without reading beyond the supplied log length.
Only acknowledge a log after reaching a complete termination packet.
The generic scanner otherwise clears the pointer even on parse failure.

I rebuilt 4 and 5 (1-3 are unchanged): vmlinux, W=1, for GENERIC,
DP264, SHARK and EIGER, plus DP264 without CONFIG_VERBOSE_MCHECK. No
warnings in the touched files. Minimal configs, not booted.

I also went through the 21272 HRM and the ES40 Service Guide this
time. The PERROR and MISC decoding, the frame layouts and the Clipper
bit tables all match.

You were right about SERR, the note in 8.8.2.6 is unconditional. And
8.8.2.1 says configuration reads never set NDS, so my probing question
goes away.

Comments on 4 and 5 in reply to those patches.

10.2.5.6 says the register freezes on the first error and only LOST
can be set afterwards. So mixed bits were detected together, and
ordering does not come into it.

> +	/* HRM 10.2.5.7: PERRMASK gates latching, not just notification. */

The first comment is not attached to any code, and the changelog
already makes the point. I would drop it.

Table 10-43 gives the PERRMASK reset value as 0, all errors disabled,
and Linux never writes it, so all of the PERROR handling here depends
on what SRM programs. What does PERRMASK read on your ES40?

> +	draina();
> +	tsunami_clear_errors(&live);

10.2.5.6 warns that PERROR read before the error reaches DRIR can
come back with INV set. On a 670 or 630 that races with a new Pchip
error we would acknowledge it with INV set and lose the transaction,
along with the 660 that would have reported it. I would leave the
Pchips alone outside 660/620.

The silent pass only existed in v6, so this is a change between
versions. It belongs below the --- line.

Where are these two types and their register layout described? I could
not find them in the 21272 HRM or the ES40 Service Guide.

> +static int
> +clipper_process_environment(struct el_common *header, int print)

With the silent pass gone, the only caller passes print = 1 and ignores
the return value. Both can go.

> +		if (packet->class != EL_CLASS__HEADER || packet->revision != 1)

el_process_header_subpacket() prints the frame name and, for event and
halt frames, the timestamp. This scanner prints nothing for the
wrapper, so a decoded log no longer says when the error happened, and
the halt code is dropped too. Please print them here as well.

> + default:
> +			return false;

Your changelog says the ES40 record is class 5, type 4, which lands
here. So on the one machine this ran on, the log is never decoded or
cleared, and each boot dumps up to 1 KiB of hex per CPU. Please split
the scanner into its own patch so the environmental decode does not
wait on it.

print_hex_dump() does this:

	print_hex_dump(err_print_prefix, " ", DUMP_PREFIX_OFFSET, 16, 1,
		       data, dump, false);

> +static struct el_subpacket_handler tsunami_subpacket_handler =

Nothing reaches this. tsunami_console_log() calls the function
directly, and the handler list is only walked from
cdl_check_console_data_log(), err_ev7.c and err_marvel.c. Drop the
registration and the three functions can be __init.
