Is this truly a static window, or is it going through an IOMMU that
just happens to have an identity mapping setup per default?
PPC servers use "ibm,dma-window" to describe the assigned dma address
space for busses/devices, but the window itself doesn't contain any
information about the physical address mapping (since it goes through
an iommu after that). It likely doesn't fit this particular use case,
but it's something we should look at as a base in case we need to
start looking at bindings for this instead of coding it per SoC. We'll
know more once we've seen what a few of the implementations out there
are.

Enabling some of the mvebu platforms in the multiplatform config for ARM
enabled these drivers, which also triggered a bunch of warnings when LPAE
is enabled (thus making phys_addr_t 64-bit).

It isn't awesome, no. Ideally the runtime PM code would do this but
then you couldn't ifdef the operations which as far as I can tell is the
main thing people want from disabling it and it gets complicated for
devices that genuinely do power up on startup so here we are.

To be precise, it is not a DT-related trick at all. You would have the
same issues, if you'd register those "low-level" (i.e. early) drivers
without DT. It is more about missing init ordering, here.
There could be different ways to work this out, even elevating clock
devices to "normal" probed devices could be possible. I am sure, in the
long run, it will work out, but now this is a fix for v3.14-rc1.

The biggest hinderance I've seen while looking at ARM PCI drivers is
quite simply - they don't follow the PCI-E spec. There is a spec, and
it is not followed.
This fixup in the X-Gene is a solid example, the purpose of the BAR in
a PCI-PCI bridge is very clear: using it to specify the system
DRAM aperature is completely wrong.
Not having working aperture windows in the root complex's bridges is
completely wrong.
Lacking any ability to generate 8 and 16 bit config write TLP's is
wrong.
Starting with an end-port PCI-E core and re-tasking it to be a root
port bridge and ignoring all the requirements with the bridge's config
space is utterly and completely WRONG.
Specifying 'use EHCI, AHCI, etc' - which are all PCI based standards
without clearly specifying exactly how PCI is suppose to work is
completely bonkers.
What is needed is a spec that says:
1) Here is how you generate config TLPs. A MMIO region that
conforms to the already specified x86 ECAM would
be perfect
2) Here is a dword by dword break down of the entire config space in
a SOC. Here is where a on-board AHCI controller must show up in
config space. Here is how an external PCI-E port must show
up. Etc. Most of this is already specified, but it clearly needs
to be layed out explicitly for ARM SOCs to actually follow it.
3) Here is how you specify the aperture(s) associated with PCI BAR's
and bridge windows in config space. And yes: The CONFIG SPACE
BARS MUST WORK.
4) Here is how MSI works, these are the values you put in the
address/data and here is how you collect the interrupt.
5) Here is how Legacy INTx must be mapped into the GIC.
This is what x86 does, and they have been doing it well for 10
years. If you want to play in the server game you have to properly
implement PCI.

Currently arch specific DMA address translation routines can be enabled
using only defines wtth "mach/memory.h" which makes impossible to use them
in with multi-platform, single zImage builds.
Hence, introduce arch specific hooks for DMA address translations
routines to be compatible with multi-platform builds. In case if
an architecture won't use it - DMA address translation routines
will fall-back to existing implementation.
Series updates existing machines like omap1, ks8695, iop13xx to
use new DMA hooks.

Well, to be honnest, I have no idea whether your patch is the right way

By the way, seeing how often a trick related to the DT is nedeed to solve an
oops or a panic, I'm really scared that this whole DT mess is just becoming
the exact copy of the ACPI mess (but 15 years later) and we'll experience the

You might want to re-read the SBSA. Unless ARM provides an IP block or
there is some other standard such as EHCI or AHCI, there is no generic
implementation. You only have to go look at the Linux EHCI or AHCI
drivers and see how meaningless and inadequate "use EHCI" is. For PCI,
the text is so brief in the SBSA there will be no way PCI is going to
just work given all the variations of root complexes, bridges, address
windows, etc. we typically see on ARM platforms. I could be wrong and
some AML magic will solve all the problems. :)

SPMI states that a slave may contain two register spaces, the Base
register space is a 5-bit byte-addressable space accessed via the
Register Read/Write and Register Zero Write command sequences, and the
Extended register space: a 16-bit byte-addressable space accessed via
the Extended Read/Write and Extended Read/Write Long command sequences.
Provide support for accessing both of these spaces, taking advantage of
the more bandwidth-efficient commands ('Register 0 Write' vs 'Register
Write', and 'Extended Register Read/Write' vs 'Extended Register
Read/Write Long') when possible.

The Qualcomm PMIC Arbiter, in addition to being a basic SPMI controller,
also implements interrupt handling for slave devices. Note, this is
outside the scope of SPMI, as SPMI leaves interrupt handling completely
unspecified.

Qualcomm's PMIC Arbiter SPMI controller functions as a bus master and
is used to communication with one or more PMIC (slave) devices on the
SPMI bus. The PMIC Arbiter is actually a hardware wrapper around the
SPMI controller that provides concurrent and autonomous PMIC access
to various entities that need to communicate with the PMIC.
The SPMI controller hardware handles all of the SPMI bus activity (bus
arbitration, sequence start condition, transmission of frames, etc).
This software driver uses the PMIC Arbiter register interface to
initiate command sequences on the SPMI bus. The status register is
read to determine when the command sequence has completed and whether
or not it completed successfully.

+System Power Management Interface (SPMI) Controller

+This document defines a generic set of bindings for use by SPMI controllers. A
+controller is modelled in device tree as a node with zero or more child nodes,
+each representing a unique slave on the bus.

+An SPMI controller node can contain zero or more child nodes representing slave
+devices on the bus. Child 'reg' properties are specified as an address, type
+pair. The address must be in the range 0-15 (4 bits). The type must be one of

System Power Management Interface (SPMI) is a specification
developed by the MIPI (Mobile Industry Process Interface) Alliance
optimized for the real time control of Power Management ICs (PMIC).
SPMI is a two-wire serial interface that supports up to 4 master
devices and up to 16 logical slaves.
The framework supports message APIs, multiple busses (1 controller
per bus) and multiple clients/slave devices per controller.

* [PATCH v5 0/6] Add support for the System Power Management Interface (SPMI)

The System Power Management Interface (SPMI) is a high-speed,
low-latency, bi-directional, two-wire serial bus suitable for real-time
control of voltage and frequency scaled multi-core application
processors and its power management of auxiliary components. SPMI
obsoletes a number of legacy, custom point-to-point interfaces and
provides a low pin count, high-speed control bus for up to 4 Master and
16 Slave devices.
SPMI is specified by the MIPI (Mobile Industry Process Interface)
Alliance [1].
This patchset is intended both to provide a core implementation of SPMI and
also to provide a controller driver implementation.
- Patches 1-2 implement the SPMI core functionality and provide basic
DT binding documentation
- Patches 3-5 provide an implementation of an SPMI controller, the
Qualcomm SPMI PMIC Arbiter, currently used on the 8x74 SoCs.
- Patch 6 rounds out regmap support for SPMI
Changes from v4[2]:
- Fixed a few minor error-handling bugs found with further testing
- Addressed Courtney Cavin's feedback regarding device tree bindings
- Reworked Kconfig options a bit (allow for building PMIC arb when COMPILE_TEST=y)

- Implement interrupt handling functionality within the PMIC Arbiter driver
- Provide basic MFD driver for the PMIC8x41 PMICs, demonstrating SPMI regmap

- Adapt existing pm8xxx-rtc driver to work as a child of the PM8x41 mfd device

- Renamed "board_lock" to "ctrl_idr_lock" to better describe it's purpose
- Rework device object lifetime management
- Rename PMIC arb binding document, add description of PMIC arb
- Add generic SPMI device tree bindings

Add the DMA engine driver for the QCOM Bus Access Manager (BAM) DMA controller
found in the MSM 8x74 platforms.
Each BAM DMA device is associated with a specific on-chip peripheral. Each
channel provides a uni-directional data transfer engine that is capable of
transferring data between the peripheral and system memory (System mode), or
between two peripherals (BAM2BAM).
The initial release of this driver only supports slave transfers between
peripherals and system memory.

* [Patch v4 0/2] Add Qualcomm BAM dmaengine driver

This patch set introduces the dmaengine driver for the Qualcomm Bus Access
Manager (BAM) DMA controller present on MSM 8x74 devices. A number of the
on-chip devices have their own BAM DMA controller and use it to move data
between system memory and peripherals or between two peripherals.
The initial version of this driver will only support slave DMA operations
between system memory and peripherals.
Changes from v3:
- Remove unused bam_channel_dir.
- Remove incorrect write to BAM_IRQ_SRCS_EE (read only).
- Remove dma direction from DT binding and revise driver to use
direction from prep_slave_sg.
- Remove unnecessary channel reset from channel_init. This could affect
channels controlled from other execution environments.
- Change terminate_all to also take care of the current active
descriptor.
- Rework .remove function to correctly mask interrupts and clean up
resources and tasklets.
Changes from v2:
- Corrected Kconfig dependencies
- Moved execution environment ID to controller DT binding. The EE is
a global setting across all of the channels on the controller.
- Combined header into source file.
- Corrected copyright date.
- Moved channel hardware initialization to occur when channel is used
for the first time.
- Converted dma_alloc_coherent to dma_alloc_writecombine
- Removed unecessary reset of channel from the dma terminate_all
- Corrected usage of EE in irq handler and channel configuration
functions.
- Changed resource functions inside probe to use correct APIs.
- Removed dma filter function and modified dma_xlate to use
dma_get_slave_channel API
- Fixed various nit comments
Changes from v1:
- Converted driver to use virt-dma
- Reworked probe function per review comments
- tx_status function now computes and returns residuals
- Removed proprietary slave config. Removed associated include file.
- Renamed files to reflect vendor name instead of specific device
- Converted to use (readl|writel)_relaxed w/ appropriate barriers
- Removed unions in favor of standard types.

Without this patch I am getting a unhandled fault exception like this
one after "Freeing unused kernel memory":
Freeing unused kernel memory: 1260K (c02c1000 - c03fc000)
Unhandled fault: imprecise external abort (0x1c06) at 0xb6f89005
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! exitcode=0x00000007
The address which is here 0xb6f89005 changes from boot to boot, with a
new build the changes are bigger. With kernel 3.10 I have also seen
this fault at different places in the boot process, but starting with
3.11 they are always occurring after the "Freeing unused kernel memory"
message. I never was able to completely boot to userspace without this
handler. The abort code is constant 0x1c06. This fault just happens
once in the boot process I have never seen it happing twice or more.
I also tried changing the CPSR.A bit to 0 in init_early, with this code
like Afzal suggested, but that did not change anything:

Disabling the L2 cache by building with CONFIG_CACHE_L2X0 unset did not
help.
This workaround was copied from the vendor code including most of the
comments. It says it they think this is caused by the CFE boot loader
used on this device. I do not have any access to any datasheet or
errata document to check this.
