We can't do a similar things for v6 because it doesn't have set/clear
registers for event enabling/disabling. To do that on v6 we must do
read-modify-write, so we need to keep a spinlock.

For v7 we can do without it.

I have a hard time find how to define "syscon" here, if I put syscon in the compatible
it gets matched on other bindings and I get lot of warnings.

How should I model it ?

How about the following:

"Indicates that the hardware will loose register context on CPU power down (e.g.
CPUIdle), despite the TRCPDCR.PU bit being set."

I'm keen to avoid making suggestions about what the kernel will do when it sees
this flag and thus prefer to focus on describing what the hardware does. So I
dropped your last sentence. However the name of the flag still implies policy
which I don't like.

I also changed the 'may not honor' wording, I'm not sure if this is really the
case or if the spec is open to interpretation.

It would great for this wording to also apply to other CS components though I
haven't investigated if these have a PU bit or something different.

As the comment above mentions. The overflow handler will trigger the
IPI_IRQ_WORK which will call the irq_work_run() both for NMI and normal IRQ.

Unless we really need to process the irq_work here, it makes things
simpler to get rid of the call.

* [PATCH] drm/stm: ltdc: add pinctrl for DPI encoder mode

The implementation of functions encoder_enable and encoder_disable
make possible to control the pinctrl according to the encoder type.
The pinctrl must be activated only if the encoder type is DPI.
This helps to move the DPI-related pinctrl configuration from
all the panel or bridge to the LTDC dt node.

This series add support for paravirtualized time for arm64 guests and
KVM hosts following the specification in Arm's document DEN 0057A:

It implements support for stolen time, allowing the guest to
identify time when it is forcibly not executing.

It doesn't implement support for Live Physical Time (LPT) as there are
some concerns about the overheads and approach in the above
specification, and I expect an updated version of the specification to
be released soon with just the stolen time parts.

Introduce a paravirtualization interface for KVM/arm64 based on the
"Arm Paravirtualized Time for Arm-Base Systems" specification DEN 0057A.

This only adds the details about "Stolen Time" as the details of "Live
Physical Time" have not been fully agreed.

User space can specify a reserved area of memory for the guest and
inform KVM to populate the memory with information on time that the host
kernel has stolen from the guest.

A hypercall interface is provided for the guest to interrogate the
hypervisor's support for this interface and the location of the shared
memory structures.

+Paravirtualized time support for arm64
+======================================
+
+Arm specification DEN0057/A defined a standard for paravirtualised time
+support for Aarch64 guests:
+

+KVM/Arm64 implements the stolen time part of this specification by providing
+some hypervisor service calls to support a paravirtualized guest obtaining a
+view of the amount of time stolen from its execution.
+
+Two new SMCCC compatible hypercalls are defined:

+PV_FEATURES 0xC5000020
+PV_TIME_ST  0xC5000022
+
+These are only available in the SMC64/HVC64 calling convention as
+paravirtualized time is not available to 32 bit Arm guests.

+The structure pointed to by the PV_TIME_ST hypercall is as follows:
+

+The structure will be updated by the hypervisor periodically as time is stolen
+from the VCPU. It will be present within a reserved region of the normal
+memory given to the guest. The guest should not attempt to write into this
+memory. There is a structure by VCPU of the guest.

+User space interface

+User space can request that KVM provide the paravirtualized time interface to
+a guest by creating a KVM_DEV_TYPE_ARM_PV_TIME device, for example:

We currently intertwine the KVM PSCI implementation with the general
dispatch of hypercall handling, which makes perfect sense because PSCI
is the only category of hypercalls we support.

However, as we are about to support additional hypercalls, factor out
this functionality into a separate hypercall handler file.

This provides a mechanism for querying which paravirtualized features
are available in this hypervisor.

Also add the header file which defines the ABI for the paravirtualized

Implement the service call for configuring a shared structre between a
VCPU and the hypervisor in which the hypervisor can write the time
stolen from the VCPU's execution time by other tasks on the host.

The hypervisor allocates memory which is placed at an IPA chosen by user
space. The hypervisor then uses WRITE_ONCE() to update the shared
structre ensuring single copy atomicity of the 64-bit unsigned value
that reports stolen time in nanoseconds.

Whenever stolen time is enabled by the guest, the stolen time counter is
reset.

The stolen time itself is retrieved from the sched_info structure
maintained by the Linux scheduler code. We enable SCHEDSTATS when
selecting KVM Kconfig to ensure this value is meaningful.

Currently a kvm_device_ops structure cannot be const without triggering
compiler warnings. However the structure doesn't need to be written to
and, by marking it const, it can be read-only in memory. Add some more
const keywords to allow this.

Allow user space to inform the KVM host where in the physical memory
map the paravirtualized time structures should be located.

A device is created which provides the base address of an array of
Stolen Time (ST) structures, one for each VCPU. There must be (64 *
total number of VCPUs) bytes of memory available at this location.

The address is given in terms of the physical address visible to
the guest and must be 64 byte aligned. The memory should be marked as
reserved to the guest to stop it allocating it for other purposes.

SMCCC 1.1 calls may use either HVC or SMC depending on the PSCI
conduit. Rather than coding this in every call site provide a macro
which uses the correct instruction. The macro also handles the case
where no PSCI conduit is configured returning a not supported error
in res, along with returning the conduit used for the call.

This allow us to remove some duplicated code and will be useful later
when adding paravirtualized time hypervisor calls.

Rather than directly choosing which function to use based on
psci_ops.conduit, use the new arm_smccc_1_1 wrapper instead.

In some cases we still need to do some operations based on the
conduit, but the code duplication is removed.

No functional change.

Enable paravirtualization features when running under a hypervisor
supporting the PV_TIME_ST hypercall.

For each (v)CPU, we ask the hypervisor for the location of a shared
page which the hypervisor will use to report stolen time to us. We set
pv_time_ops to the stolen time function which simply reads the stolen
value from the shared page for a VCPU. We guarantee single-copy
atomicity using READ_ONCE which means we can also read the stolen
time for another VCPU than the currently running one while it is
potentially being updated by the hypervisor.

Well, get_user_bvec() is certainly a good API for one class of users but
just looking at the above series, you'll see there are *many* places that
just don't work with bvecs at all and you need something for those.

I think you are not explaining the issue correctly. From looking at the
document, I think what you want to say is that the LR is saved *after*
the data for the function. Is that correct? If so, then yes, it would
cause the stack tracing algorithm to be incorrect.

Most archs do this:

On entry to a function:

	save return address
 	reserve local variables and such for current function

I think you are saying that arm64 does this backwards.

	reserve local variables and such for current function
	save return address (LR)


For normal archs, we usually have something like this:

sys_call_entry:
   [save regs and crap on stack ]
   bl sys_finit_module
 sys_call_entry+x:
   [ here's the address put into the lr regsister ]

sys_finit_module:
   save lr on stack [syscall_entry+x]
   save more stuff on stack
   [..]
   bl load_module
  sys_finit_module+y:

load_module:
  save lr on stack [sys_finit_module+y]
  save more stuff on stack
  [..]
  bl do_init_module
 load_module+z:

do_init_module:
  save lr on stack [load_module+z]
  [ let's say we do the stack trace here! ]

On the stack we have:

  data for kernel entry
  sys_call_entry+x [ lr saved in sys_finit_module ]
  data for sys_finit_module
  sys_finit_module+y [ lr saved in load_module ]
  data for load_module
  load_module+z [ lr saved in do_init_module

When we call stack_trace_save() we get:

  sys_call_entry+x
  sys_finit_module+y
  load_module+z

We then find those locations on the stack. Let's add some numbers here:

0:   top of stack
     data for kernel entry
504: sys_call_entry+x
     data for sys_finit_module
856: sys_finit_module+y
     data for sys_load_module
904: load_module+z
1048: BOTTOM OF STACK HERE

To do the work, we start from the bottom of the stack, looking for what
was returned from the stack_trace_save

start = 1048
 *p == load_module+z
  stack size = 1048 - 904

Then we say load_module stack size is 144.

What you are describing doesn't make any sense. Yes, we all add LR to
the stack, not the PC! But if the issue is that the LR is saved *after*
the function data, then that *will* make a difference. We then have:


sys_call_entry:
   [save regs and crap on stack ]
   bl sys_finit_module
 sys_call_entry+x:
   [ here's the address put into the lr regsister ]

   save sys_finit_module stuff on stack

This also brings up the question of when the mcount is called?

This is from my notes:

Then we could fish out relevant info from the drm device and present
this nicely.

For the cases where no drm_device is available the fallback is:
drm_dev_err(const struct drm_device *drm, ...)
drm_dev_info(const struct drm_device *drm, ...))

We could modify the existing UPPERCASE macros to be placeholders for
the more reader friendly lower cases variants.

So we seems to be aligned here.
In other words - if you throw time after this then try to add
the new logging variants to drm_print.h for the benefit of all.
The we can maybe later do some mass conversion if we want to get rid
of some of the older logging systems.

I have not yet found time/energy to throw after this myself.

You have to add a custom 'select' key that doesn't include 'syscon'.

I think the idea here was to avoid an additional set of intermediate 
data structures between the PPTT table/structure and the final arch 
specific data structures (which themselves are used to feed other 
things, like the scheduler, note the llc parsing). Rather the attempt is 
to provide a set of tools to retrieve information and let the policy for 
how that information is used be dictated by the consumer.

In the future, if we can further unify the arch specific cpu_topology 
structures it would make sense to parse directly into them, but until 
that happens I don't think we should try. The existing code does parse 
directly into the cache structures, but the cpu topology is subtly arm64 
at the moment. If another arch decided to use this, i'm not sure they 
would want or need it parsed in exactly the same way.
