Dear list,
I'm using hcitool to search for a number of known HW-addresses, to see of
someones in the (coffee)room. Corny, but fun.
Example:
hcitool name DE:39:EF:98:01:34
However, If all phones/devices are present, the script runs quickliy,
traversin through the list. But, if one is missing it takes a very long
time before it terminates. Setting a timeoutflag, doesn't seem to do the
trick. And I can't spawn more cild processes, because the first one locks
up the HCi device, of course.
What can be done to shorten the seek->timeout time for non-present devices
that have known HW-addresses?
sincerely
Alex

I don't know if it also works for the name resolve, but it should be and
the timeout parameter you are looking for is called page timeout and can
be set via hciconfig.

Hi all,
I've got Bluez going now on newly installed Fedora Core 2 (thanks Jouni
Lohikoski for the pointer).
I can scan for devices with 'hcitool scan' or inq, but I really want to play
with the rssi and lq options... when I try them I get "Not connected". When
I try to connect ('hcitool cc 00:0a....) I get "Can't create connection.
Operation not permitted". This is the same with two remote devices: one
laptop, one T68i.
Can someone let me know how to get RSSI and LQ from a device? Do they need
to be connected/paired? - ideally I'd like to be able to get both from
unpaired & unconnected devices.
Thanks
Chris

they don't need to be paired, but they need to be connected. If you
wanna use "hcitool cc ..." then you must do this as root, but you can
also connect to a service via rfcomm etc. and then request RSSI or the
link quality.

Marcel
