the first link tells that it's a firmware topic...
what do you think in this case:
is it a firmware topic of my usb dongle (so below bluez) or does this fall
into the bluez field?
btw, maybe interesting:
trying to pair my nokia6230 on windows fails badly (with "pairing and
connection refused for security reason"). pairing one of a friend (an older
model) works withhout problems...

just phoned with the acer support center.
the problem is in the firmware of my dongle. acer doesn't support
combination keys and haven't planned to do so...
they suggest to buy a product from another manufacturer...
thanks for the time and sorry for the disturbation...

Here we go again. You actually got a Bluetooth dongle with the buggy and
crappy Zeevo TC2001 chip. They also sold it to HP for inclusion into
their iPAQs and this explain the information on the Internet. I've never
seen this problem before and it is good to be aware of it. Now all the
information seen with hcidump are making sense.
Get yourself a CSR based dongle and you won't see this problems anymore.

I actually always hit "reply all". This is a Mailman problem with using
the "Reply-To:" setting I switched to some time ago.

there are a lot of posts in forums and so on that this is a problem of

but i'd really like to hear something different!

this is really weird. The error code 0x29 means "pairing with unit key
not supported", but actually it sends out the link key notification. It
tell us that the link key is a local unit key. Whatever local means in
this case. And the PIN code request happens before the SABM on the
control DLCI 0. There is something fundamental wrong.
What device do you use (hciconfig -a)? What kind of phone is this
(hcitool info <bdaddr>)?

hello again. here the whole story...
I programmed a little bluetooth server and startet it on my computer.
I programmed a little bluetooth client and startet it on my mobile phone.
when i start the client and try to connect to my programmed service, i
come to the pairing steps. my mobile phone then tells me "pairing and
connection rejected because of security reasons".
searching on google for that, i found that my nokia mobile phone only
works with combination keys. if the remote devices works with unit keys,
the connection is refused because of security reasons.
so my question was:
does bluez work with unit keys or connection keys???
respectively, my second question: is this in the bluez level or in the
firmware of my bluetooth dongle?
regards
Marco

your analysis of the problem is wrong. Use "hcidump -x" as root and see
what really happens.

Is this an firmware-specific (of my bluetooth dongle)?
Just read a website that told me this...

Hello everybody
Is there currently support for combination keys or only for unit keys?
I tried to connect to my laptop using a nokia 6230i (it supports only
combination keys) and failed. so i assume there's no support for
combination keys or it's disabled by default...
Is support for combination keys planned/in work?
kind regards
Marco Trudel
