Upgrading to Kernel 2.6.10r2 fixed my problem where scanning fails to
find my phone; thanks for suggestion.

But now I have another problem - can't get the kernel working with my
NVidia graphics card so I need to downgrade. But to what?

Don't bother replying if it takes effort to find out - I'll just keep
downgrading until it works, just might take a while that's all.
