I own a Thinkpad 560x which runs an LINUX 2.4.18-ac kernel ( necessary to
access the nonstandard Thinkpad bios :-(
What do you recommend to get up and running with bluetooth support?

I tried to patch the generic 2.4.22 kernel with ac and mh patches. Will
not work.

is a vanilla 2.4.22-ac working for you? Why don't you try a 2.4.28 or a
2.6 kernel. About what kind of patch for non-standard Thinkpad BIOS are
we talking?

Regards

Marcel

Yup. That's OK for the PNP Bios (but will not incorporate the mh patches,
of course )

Why don't you try a 2.4.28
The 2.4.28 will not support PNP Bios :-(

 or a
> 2.6 kernel.
I had very bad experience with an 2.6 Kernel which completely crashes the
system when connecting to the laptop over irda :-( maybe I will try that
later, currently 2.6 is for me an unstable option.

About what kind of patch for non-standard Thinkpad BIOS are
> we talking?
See CONFIG_PNPBIOS in $kernelpath/Documentation/Configure.help
http://tpctl.sf.net probably better explains that than I can.

Hi Volker,

is patching the problem or do the kernel not work?

you should start looking at the ACPI PNP support.

The ac and mh patches are conflicting.

OK, here's what I did:
--
tar xvjf linux-2.4.22.tar.bz2
cd linux-2.4.22
zcat ../patch-2.4.22-ac4.gz |patch -p1
--
This is all good, and also leads to working kernel w/ pnpbios support :-)

the CREDITS file can be ignored.

Check the Configure.help.rej file, but this doesn't really matter. You
may miss some help text.

So Alan took the firmware_class stuff. This collides, but you shouldn't
worry about it. You don't need it.

Again firmware_class.

This is also firmware_class.

Again the firmware_class.

This will fail of course. The -ac and the -mh EXTRAVERSION won't match.

This is a problem. Look at the net/bluetooth/bnep/core.c.rej file.

The rest looks fine. So unless you are using BNEP/PAN you won't get any
problems.

Regards

Marcel
