[Bluez-users] a2dp choppy sound problem

Hi all,
    I get very choppy sound when playback audio through A2DP. Even the application shows playback ends,the headset could still hear the intermittent choppy sound for a few seconds.

Here are some tests:
# aplay -D bluetooth /1.wav
result:choppy
#play --device=bluetooth /1.wav
result:choppy
#mplayer -ao alsa:device=bluetooth
result:choppy

So i think it's possible not audio application problems.
Could some one who knows about this problem give me some help?

can tell us what you get when you run 'hcitool con' while the audio is
playing? Does it show slave connections?

I get info as follows when i run 'hcitool con' while the audio is playing.

# hcitool con
Connections:
< ACL 00:0D:3C:EB:53:F0 handle 1 state 1 lm SLAVE ENCRYPT

It do show slave connections.What shall i do next?

Benson,

Can you try these in /etc/bluetooth/hcid.conf one at a time,
restarting hcid each time and tell us if anything improves the
choppiness?

put "master" in hcid.conf's lm setting
take "rswitch" out of the lp setting
take "sniff" out of the lp setting

Here's the test:
1.put "master" in hcid.conf's lm setting
lm accept,master; choppy sound
# hcitool con
Connections:
< ACL 00:0D:3C:EB:53:F0 handle 1 state 1 lm SLAVE ENCRYPT

2.take "rswitch" out of the lp setting
lp hold,sniff,park; choppy sound
# hcitool con
Connections:
< ACL 00:0D:3C:EB:53:F0 handle 1 state 1 lm MASTER ENCRYPT

3.take "sniff" out of the lp setting
lp hold,park; choppy sound
# hcitool con
Connections:
< ACL 00:0D:3C:EB:53:F0 handle 1 state 1 lm MASTER ENCRYPT

It seems no difference and chopyy as before.
Anything else could do ?

you can try all three config changes above together.

what version of bluez-utils is this? Have you tried cvs head?

are you getting interference? If it's a 1.2 or newer bt adapter, you
could check the afh map to see if it's detecting and trying to avoid
interference:

hcitool afh 00:0D:3C:EB:53:F0

If the adapter on your computer is bt 1.2+ and the headset is older
than 1.2, afh might be another advantage to run the computer's adapter
as master.

is it running on a slow computer or an embedded computer?

I have tried ,still choppy sound.

I have not tried cvs head  and the version of bluez-utils i use is 3.22.

I could not check the afh map ,
I got this:

#hcitool afh 00:0D:3C:EB:53:F0
HCI read AFH map request failed: Connection timed out

It seems there's some errors,is it?

The adapter is bt 1.2 and the headset is 2.0.

It is running on CentOS 5.0(VMware) on x86 , 1G Mem ,PD3.2GHz .
I just compiled and installed bluez-libs 3.22 and bluez-utils 3.22 .

Then ,

#hcid -s -n -f /etc/bluetooth/hcid.conf

#aplay -D bluetooth 1.wav

Got choppy sound.

Configure Option:
bluez-libs 3.22
./configure --prefix=/usr

bluez-utils 3.22
configure --prefix=/usr --enable-test --enable-usb --enable-input --enable-serial --enable-initscripts --enable-bccmd --enable-cups --disable-pcmia --enable-alsa --enable-audio --enable-shared PKG_CONFIG=pkg-config --enable-obex --enable-avctrl --enable-network

if you run this inside VMware then it is not guaranteed to work at all.
The latency that the USB emulation of VMware imposes makes it impossible
to use it properly. We have seen this with VMware Fusion on MacBooks
already.
