Hello,
I have a MA720 mobile action bluetooth usb tongle that does not work under ubuntu 7.04-8.10 and OpenSuse.
I have tried different how-to but none worked.
Googling around found that many had problems with that dongle. MA700 is supported but not MA720.
I also found that post
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.bluez.devel/13515
my lsusb is
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 0df7:0722 Mobile Action Technology, Inc.
dmesg
[ 4634.001887] usb 2-2: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4
[ 4634.184129] usb 2-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
and
/proc/bus/usb/devices
bash: /proc/bus/usb/devices: No such file or directory
Currently i am in Ubuntu 8.04, all updates done, compaq nx9010 laptop.
Other usb tongles that i have tested worked
Thanx
Metaxas Eugenios

Thank you for your answer,
modprobe hci_usb gives no error, but
modprobe vendor=0df7 or modprobe product=0722
gives
FATAL: Module vendor=0df7 not found

You are supposed to pass all 3 in a single line. product and vendor
are options for the hci_usb module.

in this line there is only one module hci_usb. the other words are
parameters for this module.
but i don't know exactly if we can use those parameters.
I tried to help you in this way because early I did like this for module
'usbserial'. so I supposed it would be helpful

are you still trying to debug this. Check modinfo hci_usb (or better
actually use the btusb driver). You can only use the module parameters
listed there. Period. There have never been any vendor or product module
parameters for any of these drivers. That is just pure usbserial crap
and shouldn't even been there. We can use sysfs to bind/unbind drivers.
I wanna see "cat /proc/bus/usb/devices" from your device. And if that is
not mounted then check Google on how to mount it.
Regards
Marcel

this is not a Bluetooth dongle. At least not an usual one. It should
look like this:
T: Bus=03 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=01 Cnt=01 Dev#= 7 Spd=12 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=e0(unk. ) Sub=01 Prot=01 MxPS=64 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=0a12 ProdID=0001 Rev=53.60
C:* #Ifs= 3 Cfg#= 1 Atr=c0 MxPwr= 0mA
I:* If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 3 Cls=e0(unk. ) Sub=01 Prot=01 Driver=btusb
E: Ad=81(I) Atr=03(Int.) MxPS= 16 Ivl=1ms
E: Ad=02(O) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms
E: Ad=82(I) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms
That is the bare minimum that btusb/hci_usb need as endpoints to
actually work properly.
If this is really a Bluetooth dongle, then it needs a custom driver to
make it work.
Regards
Marcel

Thanx for the quick answer.
It is a bluetooth dongle. Using the provided drivers under XP, works as a bluetooth dongle and managed to sync my Pocket pc with Outlook, transfer files etc on an old Compaq 1200. When i got it (~3 years ago) it was advertised as a new kind of bluetooth dongle, and to support sound over bluetooth (Until now if you Google for ma-720 you'll find the adds). I bought it to use my bluetooth headset with skype/voipbuster (never did thow cause i'm on Ubuntu ever since:)). Maybe the sound thing causes the problem and making it an anusual dongle .
Thank you again for your time and help!
Regards
Eugenios
