you guess right and it needs the bcm203x and the hci_usb driver. So when
do you start looking at the logfiles to see what is going wrong.

The normal system log, something like /var/log/syslog.
With hciconfig you see the registered hci devices.

hciconfig hasn't any "scan" argument.

Then maybe it is called different in your distribution. Look in /var/log/
for the right one.

- kernel version
- bluez-utils/libs version
- distribution

What you're looking for is called hcitool, hciconfig is for configuration
purposes ...

You are probably not taking to me, although you are replying to my posting. Please reply to the right message. Then please read the thread. Then notice he hasn't even a hci device up. So hcitool is at this point useless.

let me correct you, because with bluez-utils-2.7 hciconfig has a command
inqmode to set the inquiry mode. Check with -h or the manpage for the
new Bluetooth 1.2 commands.
