[Bluez-users] Totally confused

Hi


There are so many pieces to the puzzle: hci* sdp* rfcomm others?

What comes first? second? ...?

I just want to get pictures off my Motorola V710 picture phone.
Has anyone done this?

What programs do I run in what order and what config/password files need 
to be messed with?

I have read man pages and some of the howtos and such, that are totally 
confusing.  Do I really need to know about stacks and protocols and the 
inner workings of all the different programs?  Is there no single doc or 
howto that puts it all together in simple to the point terms?

I am computer literate, especially on Linux, but bluetooth is causing me 
no end of frustration.

Check the many HOWTOs that can be found on the net.

You can use obexftp(1) to fetch files from your phone.

Something like:
$ obexftp -b AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF -B <channel> -c Pictures -g Pic1.jpg
should work.

I have only found the one on http://bluetooth-alsa.sourceforge.net/,
but it is not working because of some PIN Code Request Negative Reply
error...

Have you tried following the Gentoo wiki? You're probably not using
Gentoo, but they are well-known for providing pretty good documentation
to the open source community.

About the PIN code: have you configured a pin helper correctly in
hcid.conf? It's pretty simple, you can just write a shell script:

#!/bin/sh
echo "PIN:1234

Make it executable, then edit hcid.conf with the line:

pin_helper /path/to/the/script

Apparently, pin_helper is not available...
Here is what the Debian maintainer added to the documentation:


PIN (or passkey) management
- ---------------------------
since bluez 3.0 the old pin_helper script has been replaced by
the dbus interface.  To add a default passkey for every outgoing
request (e.g. the old /etc/bluetooth/pin file) drop it into
/etc/bluetooth/passkeys/default. (e.g. echo "1234" >
/etc/bluetooth/passkeys/default )
To add a passkey for a specific outgoing connection replace default
with the device's address. ( /etc/default/passkeys/aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff
will contain passkey for aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff ).
After adding a passkey you should restart bluetooth with

/etc/init.d/bluetooth restart

and the new passkeys will be registered.


I have also tried that and it is not working... do you think it is a
Debian problem?

I forgot the ';' at the end of the line. Did you add that? Can we see
your hcid.conf at its full extent?

  I modified /usr/local/etc/dbus-1/system.conf as below. After this the pin problem went away. I am using bluez 3.1 and dbus 0.62.  Pls find system.conf attached.

I believe that this line is useless, because the previous includes
everything in the system.d directory, including bluez-hcid.conf.
However, I tried using yout system.conf and I keep getting the same
problem...

I have, none seem to directly apply and all are confusing at best.

Will try it, however the manual for the phone says it does not support 
obex, so this probably will not work.

No other programs need run to setup the connection? no config files 
setup? no rfcomm? just obexftp by itself?

I kind of noticed the same thing when I first started using BlueZ, but
after a while and many problems, things got clearer.

Check what services are supported by your phone with `sdptool browse'

Yes, of course you need to edit some configuration files. You haven't
even read the man pages, have you? `man 5 hcid.conf' is a good starting
point, then edit /etc/bluetooth/hcid.conf properly.

No need to have a working rfcomm device, AFAIK.

Some important userspace tools that ship with BlueZ are hcitool, sdptool, 
hcidump, l2ping, hciconfig... use your distribution's package manager to
find them all. (for instance, `qlist bluez|grep bin' or `dpkg -L
bluez|grep bin')

Hello, i have a moto l6 and i write script (can be usable with other
phones, is tested in moto l6 and sonyericsson t610) for download al the
photos or all the videos with a single comand, it isn't totaly finish
but in this moment you can use for mv or cp your photos or your videos
to the pc.

# cp getmovil /usr/local/bin
# chmod 755 /usr/local/bin/getmovil

$ cp .getmovil ~        //you need modfy for use your home folder
$ getmovil -p -m        // it get all the photos

in moto l6 photos and videos use notation DD-MM-YY_HHMM
getmovil fist parameter: -p|-i|-r|-v|-s|-t // -p is photos, -v is videos

For can recive files seding from the phone you can use obexserver if you
are using debian apt-get install obexserver, remember read the man
before use obexserver comand.
