Looks like upstream has a few recent regressions now. We probably need
to look into expanding our test coverage so that we catch this before
they hit linus tree.

Moving to kernel package. cifs-utils is a user space one that does not
implement the SMB protocol but rather helps to establish the session. The bug
is in the kernel side of things.

Yes, agreed.  I've written the tests that catch below report and will
add to buildbot once we have access to it again.

This bug seems related to [1] and [2] and should be fixed by [3].
