Linux kernel preference is GPL-2.0 (not "later") and this should be
used, unless your lawyers requested something else or you have derived
work, obviously.

For the second part, preferred is to be consistent with the bindings
thus use BSD-2-Clause which is, I think, fully equivalent to MIT.

Although none of above comments is worth relicensing existing code or
rejecting a patch.
