John, part of the problem is whether or not the protocol is documented.
In many cases it seems the HTs and what not probably just do a memory
dump and the proprietary software is written to handle the specific
model. If there are no rig control programming specs, there is little
that can be done unless someone wants to engage in a fair amount of
reverse engineering, I would assume.
Of course, the manufacturers can't be bothered to offer anything except
some one-off program for That Proprietary OS...
