Alinco DR-135TP Comm for APRS?

I have an Alinco DR-135TP and an older laptop with a
real serial port running Linux.

I have the laptop connected to the rig but cannot recall
how to query the rig or the serial port.

I checked BIOS and Serial 1 and 2 and something called
serial MP (I think) are all set to AUTO.

I forgot to turn off the rig when I power-cycled the laptop
and the rig reacted to some sort of signals from the laptop,
so the cable connection and serial port are at least partially
good!

Any suggestions, please?

Ooops!

I forgot to mention that I was using urxvt - which has
been recommended as a Linux alternative to Hyperterminal.
