It will depend on your system configuration... if all you have on IDE is
the ls120 and CD, then I think the CD would be /dev/hdc so you should be
able to use
"eli <vmlinux> root=/dev/hdc"

Don't forget to specify the "rescue" option---otherwise, the boot will
get stuck halfway through. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to document
this option in README.IA-64 because I didn't know if the CD-ROM is
actually bootable until we had the master (and then it was too late to
update the README and make a new master...).

Note: I can't seem to reach MX hpl.hp.com from here?
ahhh rescue. Didn't think of that one.
Doesn't the included CD read CD-RW, or at least CD-R? Couln't you have
tested with one of those? That's what we do here and then we ship the
CD-R to mastering.
Also /etc/fstab has /dev/hdc1 in it. ;-( should just be /dev/hdc

Gee, could just _someone_ at least consider saying thanks for having a
bootable CD in the first place?
I'm getting a little tired of hearing all sorts of complaints about
not having a perfect CD. If I hadn't worked all night Thursday/Friday
before LWE and Mike Balma and Lorraine Bartlett hadn't pulled all
kinds of strings at HP with the CD manufacturing, we would not have a
CD at all and you'd be struggling with boot floppies instead.
</RANT>.
Wow, I feel so much better now. ;-)

Whimper....
Thank you, thank you, thank you! for putting together this CD! This is a
huge step forward! I didn't mean to be ungrateful at all, I was just
making suggestions. I am VERY pleased with the CD. I am also willing to
help in any way I can. I'll be at IDF next week. Hope to meet some of
you folks there.
An the other hand, feel free to rant if helps. ;-)

As far as CD-RW and DVD read capability goes: I have no idea if it
does. Not something I can test easily.
Tim> An the other hand, feel free to rant if helps. ;-)
Yep, it did! ;-)
On a related note: I actually had to hack mkisofs to make it possible to
install an El-Torito image bigger than 2.88MB. I'm sure I didn't do it
entirely correctly, so this is something that should be looked into.
Also, if you use a recent mkisofs, no hacking will be necessary.
Instead, there is now an option that let's you write "harddisk"-typed
boot images (sorry, I forgot the option name, but you'll find it by
searching for El Torito in the cdrecord man page). This will take
some fiddling and experimenting to get right, I assume.
