Hello,
we run into the same problem as mentioned by some other
people before.
We get SCSI timeouts with QLogic controller.
But, if we try to get into Qlogic BIOS, the systems stalls - nithing
happens.
So we can not change the option for >4GB support.
This is stupid, as I don't have any other controller at my hands...
(which would be supported??)
System is A3 stepping, BIOS 60.
Any idea?
regards
Holger Berger

Don't use BIOS 60 yet (it requires increased ACPI support in the
kernel, IIRC.) Use BIOS 59 instead.

Hello,
does the usage of BIOS 59 solve the SCSI timeout problems
or does it solve the problem that I can not access the QLogic BIOS?
I read that usage of older ELI or lilo should also solve some sort of
SCSI timeout problems. It does not for our boxes...
regards
Holger

It should solve the SCSI timeout problems; don't know off the
top of my head if it would affect entering the Qlogic BIOS.

Holger,
As far as we can see (at CERN), BIOS59 solves our SCSI timeout problems.

You should be able to boot 2.4.0-test7 (ACPI enabled) kernel on FW 60.

No, it doesn't. If you have a BugSur and you try entering Qlogic
BIOS by pressing Alt-Q the system will hang.

If you get SCSI timeouts this usually means that IRQ routing setup is
wrong. Neither lilo nor eli incorporated full ACPI support yet. The
solution is to use 2.4.0-test7 kernel plus the latest IA-64 patch. This
patch has support for ACPI parsing which means that it should be able to
correctly set up IRQ routing from the ACPI tables. I have tested test7
on a 2P BigSur with BIOS 60 and it works without problems.

Uros,
I see your back at work after IDF. ;-) How dod your talk go?
What are you using to boot test7 with, lilo or eli? Just curious.

lilo-0.9.0. With ACPI support in the kernel now the bootloader shouldn't
matter that much.
