Which graphics card are you using in Lion? I was able to install RH7.1
fisher with a PCI ATI Rage128 card only. You could always try installing
in text mode.

I couldn't install the latest RH distribution for IA64 on Lion. Seems like
it fails when starting the X server. No problems with BigSur. Any ideas?

As far as I know there is no text mode in "Fisher". And yes - the video is
ATI Rage 128.

Yes, Fisher includes a text mode installer. All releases do.
Power on the system.
Insert the CD.
Go to the EFI shell.
type: eli linux text
