[Linux-ia64] XFree 4.1 and console switching

Hi,

I have noticed that on some machines (Big Surs and Lions) switching back and
forth between X Windows and the text console (via Alt-F1, etc) will cause
the machine to crash.  The screen is blank and the box is unresponsive both
locally and over the network.

Has anyone else seen this?

Yes.

I've seen my single B3 BigSur (BIOS 89b) crash most of the time I
kill the X server (usually by logging out). I'm using kernel 2.4.3
(from the latest RedHat distro).

Mike-

I've seen this problem on my BigSur also, still happening with C0
parts.  I try not to do this very often so the pain hasn't gotten
big enough to do anything about it yet :-)

Yes, I've seen this on my Lion Qual with SuSE 7.2a RC1 (2.4.4-SMP).
It's an annoying "feature" when I start tests in KDE2 an switch to text
console
with ALT-F1 (or ALT-F10 to check messages).
