Has anyone got IDE DMA working? When I try it with 2.4.18 the machine is
hanging during partition table reading, with the disk light constantly on.
It seems like the kernel is not receiving any answer from the disk.
Andreas.

I noticed similar problems some time ago (2.4.13 AFAICR). Our test
plan said "test with an IDE disk > 64GB", so we plugged one in and the
kernel said nothing more than "DMA timeout". But it's not necessarily
the kernel, it also could be that the IDE interface on the legacy I/O
board isn't able to do all IDE features properly. Has anybody used it
for devices other than CD-ROM and LS120?

I have an 80G Maxtor disk as hdc in my HP i2000 (BigSur) running Debian with
our current 2.4.17 kernel and it works fine. I've also replaced the provided
DVD-ROM with an HP dvd100i DVD+RW drive, which is also working ok.

Yes, we have an ia64 system here with a IDE drive on which IDE DMA
seems to work fine. However, it's not an Itanium machine and doesn't
use the PIIX (or whatever its called) controller. I don't think I
have ever succeeded in getting IDE DMA going on a Big Sur machine. I
never tried to track it down to see whether its a hw or sw problem.

Yes, we have one Big Sur that has only IDE drives (4GB, if you can
believe it... ;-).
