Hello Geert,

This series of patches updates Atari EtherNAT and EtherNEC network support,
plus adds USB driver support for the ISP1160 chip found on EtherNAT and
NetUSBee adapters.

It is meant to apply on top of your m68k-queue or master branches. Expect a
merge conflict in #4 (the EtherNAT base address has been moved to atarihw.h
as per your feedback). I can provide the necessary patch on top of the 'Initial
EtherNAT support' patch from your queue that would avoid the conflict.

Network stuff:
01/14 m68k/atari EtherNEC: remove original EtherNEC driver
02/14 m68k/atari EtherNAT: remove original EtherNAT driver
03/14 m68k/atari: use CONFIG_ATARI in smc91x.h
04/14 m68k/atari: EtherNAT - change number of Atari interrupt sources
05/14 m68k/irq: add handle_polled_irq() for timer based soft interrupts
06/14 m68k/atari: use dedicated irq_chip for timer D interrupts
07/14 m68k/atari: EtherNEC - add platform device support
08/14 m68k/atari: EtherNAT - ethernet support - new driver (smc91x)
09/14 m68k/atari: EtherNEC - ethernet support - new driver (ne.c)
10/14 m68k/atari: EtherNAT - add interrupt chip for Ethernet and USB interrupts

USB related:
11/14 m68k/atari: Implement 16 bit access macros for ROM port
12/14 m68k: Implement ndelay() based on the existing udelay() logic
13/14 m68k/atari: USB - add platform device definitions for ISP1160 HCD
14/14 m68k/atari: USB - Add ISP1160 USB host controller support

You may well decide to leave out #5 - use of EtherNEC and NetUSBee is then possible
only with the 'noirqdebug' kernel option.

Many thanks to David Galvez for setting me straight on register locations, ways to deal
with the USB fifo transfers and testing/fixing the code for the NetUSBee case. I have
departed from the code David used to switch between NetUSBee and EtherNAT access, but
only slighlty. Please test this version and yell if it's not doing the right thing, David.

With the present code, the timer D interrupt frequency is approximately 100 Hz. On fast
hardware, it should probably be doubled (change the timer D counter value fron 254 to 123
to achieve that. I had the timer rate adjustable via kernel options in an earlier
incarnation pf the ethernet drivers. Or make it a function of the processor clock rate
- whoever feels like it can revive that bit please).

Thorsten: I will shortly send another patch series against upstream linus-3.9-rc2.
That one may be easier to integrate into Debian kernel sources.

Cheers,

	Michael

Is that all there is to say about these? Nothing about which platforms

This doesn't make sense. Is not MACH_IS_ATARI set when CONFIG_ATARI
is set? And even if it isn't then just set 48 for MACH_IS_ATARI and
let the default of 49 below take the ATARI=y and IS_ATARI=n case,
without the need for the ?: operator at all. On top of that, why
aren't you using the ATARI_ETHERNEC option here for your 48 trigger,
instead of the much higher arch/mach level triggers at all?

m68k kernels can be multi-platform, so we need the MACH_IS_ATARI()
runtime check.

CONFIG_ATARI_ETHERNEC could be used instead of CONFIG_ATARI,
but as ne.c is used on Atari with Ethernec only, it doesn't matter much.

All Atari computers have the ROM port. As such, the driver could be
used on MegaST/E, TT or Falcon variants (these having MMU support so
can run m68k linux).

The ne.c driver is also used on the Q40, a m68k platfrem which
includes the ISA bus. Hence the runtime check for whether the driver
runs on Atari, or some other m68k platform below.

As Geert pointed out, MACH_IS_ATARI is a runtime test on multiplatform
kernels (which are the norm these days, even with m68k).

Would you be OK if I expanded the comment like this?

/* ne.c is used on m68k Atari and Q40 computers - the Atari ROM-port
adapter is 8-bit, Q40 uses ISA */

> is set? And even if it isn't then just set 48 for MACH_IS_ATARI and
> let the default of 49 below take the ATARI=y and IS_ATARI=n case,
> without the need for the ?: operator at all. On top of that, why

This would limit the runtime test to the case where it is actually
needed (untested):

#elif defined(CONFIG_ATARI) && defined(CONFIG_Q40)
/* multiplatform m68k kernel - the Atari ROM-port adapter is 8-bit,
Q40 uses ISA */

#elif defined(CONFIG_ATARI) /* no Q40 support - 8-bit mode on Atari ROM port */
#  define DCR_VAL 0x48
#else

Are there any other m68k platforms that use the ne.c driver, Geert?
apne, hydra and zorro8390 all have their own separate drivers - any
others?

Fair enough - I can do that. I though using the mach level one made it
clearer this is about multiplatform issues.

We still need the runtime test on kernels configured for both Atari
and Q40 though. Which variant do you prefer?

Thanks,

  Michael

DaveM already applied it to his tree, and sent a pull request to Linus.

MACH_IS_ATARI already evaluates to a constant on single-platform
kernels, so this is optimized at compile time.
Hence there's not really a need for this.

Not that I'm aware of. Only Q40 has CONFIG_NE2000 in defconfig.

Gr{oetje,eeting}s,

OK - won't resend then unless explicitly requested.

Many thanks, Dave!

I was hoping it would. More of an attempt to make the logic easier to
understand, but a comment would be sufficient (and avoid redundancy).

Good - we can finally put this one to rest.

These weren't defined by the kernel before, so why do we need to define them
now?

Will defining __UINTPTR_TYPE__ cause problems in compiling libboost by
changing the signature on C++ functions that use uintptr_t?

Folks,

I apologize for the goof ups. I know accepting newbie patches must be
annoying. If it's any consolation I'm trying hard to learn the ropes
with a simple patches so I can contribute more substantial stuff
later.

Thanks,
Gideon
