Hi,

I'm considering buying an (purple) Indigo2 and was wondering what kind of
help I could get regarding the hardware of this machine? Would it be possible
to liaise with people at SGI for the relevant information?

I *have* read the archives and I know that I2's only boot via serial console
at the moment, but I would like to try and get something else working as I
want some experience with MIPS and this seems to be the best way forward.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Luke A. Guest

P.S: Any buying advice would also be appreciated ;-)

Does anyone know where I can get hardware documentation for the Indigo2?
I'm interested in the hardware memory map and what's on the board
itself, such as ethernet controller, the serial ports, rtc, etc.

Thanks,

Pete

That's so cool. The first thing that pops into my mind is:

We've heard recently from SGI that they're not going to releasee docs for
indigo2. How do you intend to get around this, or is this in fact not
true?

I'll do whatever I can to help.

So I've got a decent deal on an indigo2[*] with the extreme kit lined
up, and I'm wondering how much I'll regret it if I go ahead and purchase
it. Will I live to see it run Linux? Will I be able to use the x86
EISA code to get started?

[*] R4400 @ 200 MHz, 80 MB RAM, 1GB drive, SCSI floppy, internal zip
drive, 20" monitor, $1250 US + shipping. Good deal?

Mike
