Hi, all,
We port linux-2.2.12 to our mipsel evaluation board.
We use Ali 1535D south bridge. Now our disk can work
under PIO, I want to work using DMA. I do not know
how many places I have to initialize.
If someone knows, please help me.
Thanks!
Barry

I try to install the Linux on the Malta board. In the big-endian mode, it
works fine. But in the little-endian mode, the kernel just displayed
"LINUX started..." and then deadlock. Does anybody can help me solve the
problem ?
I guess the system maybe failed to create an initial console for displaying
messages to me?
Thanks,

You would need to be a little more specific if you want help - e.g. what
kernel did you boot, did you get the binary from the MIPS Malta CDROM or
website, did you compile yourself, what "go" command parameters did you
use to launch the kernel, what CPU are you running on, etc.
Only idea I can come up with unless you are more specific is that you
accidentally booted the wrong kernel, e.g. Atlas board kernel
instead of Malta - this kernel will startup and then hang quickly.

What kernel and where did you get it from? MontaVista has a Linux Support
Package (LSP) for the Malta and it's available on the Journeyman Mips CD.
I'm pretty sure it's little endian.

On a slightly related note, is it possible to have more than 64MB of memory
on a Malta board? If so, I may get a Malta - it would be a little more
exciting to work with than my Indy.

I have a Malta board with 128MB.
Currently we have a problem in our bootloader (YAMON), it only see up till
128MB, which mean that we only use up till 128MB of the RAM module, even though
the RAM module contain more than 128MB.
That will be fix in a later release.

So the key question is whether it is the precompiled bigendian kernel
from ftp.mips.com that doesn't work or the one you compiled yourself?
To verify, these are the precompiled 2.4.3 Malta kernels on ftp.mips.com:
-rw-r--r-- 1 9618 40 1075193 Jul 6 04:35 vmlinux-2.4.3.malta.eb-01.00.srec.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 9618 40 1107586 Jul 6 04:35 vmlinux-2.4.3.malta.el-01.00.srec.gz
If the precompiled kernel works and the one you compiled doesn't there
could be something wrong in your compiler setup. We're currently
compiling on Linux/x86 using the precompiled version from:
ftp://oss.sgi.com/pub/linux/mips/crossdev/i386-linux/
It reports itself as being:
/home/hartvige/tmp/linux-2.4.3> /usr/bin/mipsel-linux-gcc -v
Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/mipsel-linux/egcs-2.91.66/specs
gcc version egcs-2.91.66 19990314 (egcs-1.1.2 release)
/home/hartvige/tmp/linux-2.4.3> /usr/bin/mips-linux-gcc -v
Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/mips-linux/egcs-2.91.66/specs
gcc version egcs-2.91.66 19990314 (egcs-1.1.2 release)
