Okay, because 1.0.x and early 1.1.x versions don't work when compiled with
recent bison versions.

Newer Linux kernels are ISO-8859-1 codepage by defeault.  You must explicitly
set the codepage with:  charset G0 cp437
in a virtual console that you want to use IBM characters in.  If you want
to use cp437 (IBM) character set in a X terminal, you must install the VGA
font (vga.pcf) and tell the terminal to use it when you run it (typically
with -fn vga or -font vga).
