Dear subscribers.
I'm planning to buy a Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop with an ATI Radeon 9000
Mobility 64 MB as the chosen graphics accelerator. I would like to know
if there are drivers available for this card for Linux, preferably with
both 2D and OpenGL (3D) support. I'm running SuSE Linux 8.0
Professional.
Any comments on the suitability of this computer for running Linux are
also welcome.
Kind regards, Ola Theander

The best place IMHO to get an answer to your question is
http://google.com/linux
Place Dell Inspriron 8200 in the search engine and you will get a big suprise.
The experts dont seem to like it much tho, as a matter of fact they moaned at
Redhat a lot as well, good job redhat has problems on laptops.
I suggest you should read this one as well, it will be in the list you get
from google but i read this one.
http://www.astro.umd.edu/~teuben/linux/laptop/dell8200.html
Take a close look at the XF86Config-4 file, they use the nvidia driver if you
read on and digest you will see that the radeon is not fully supported "yet".

Hi All,
When I connect to my linux network at school off
building using ssh and do a finger, I see an entry
like:
User Real Name What Idle TTY Host Console
Location
abhijit Abhijit 11:36 co bayonet D103 LSRC
abhijit Abhijit *7* bayonet
hughes08.biac.duke.edu
As can be seen under the TTY entry, we have "co" and
"7". co is console, signifying the actual location of
the machine "bayonet", right?
And is the "7" assigned randomly? I mean, is the
number "7" because I may have 6 shells open on
bayonet?
Regards,
Abhijit.
