They *were* there, yes. I wasn't sure if I could just get rid of them, 
but in the end I did and everything works all right. According to 
something I found via Google, they are temporary files 'left over' by 
the Mandrake Control Centre. The thing is, they get 'left over' again 
any time I reboot the machine. Presumably, this shouldn't happen. Could 
it be a sign of something wrong that needs putting right?
