Yes, both exist. clm (as root)> adduser (or useradd, the result is the same. Which command is preferred?) "vipw lockfile (/etc/ptmp) is present!" I cannot find an explanation in the manual. I wasn't sure if I could just get rid of them, but in the end I did and everything works all right. According to something I found via Google, they are temporary files 'left over' by the Mandrake Control Centre. The thing is, they get 'left over' again any time I reboot the machine. Presumably, this shouldn't happen. Could it be a sign of something wrong that needs putting right? Ah!, ok like i said, this is a common problem with all distro's, i cannot say if Mandrake has any spesific reasons for leaving them there, IMHO *tmp files can normally be deleted without problems however caution is the word. > Cheers, > Andrew > -- Regards Richard pa3gcu@zeelandnet.nl http://people.zeelandnet.nl/pa3gcu/ - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe linux-newbie" in the body of a message to majordomo@vger.kernel.org More majordomo info at http://vger.kernel.org/majordomo-info.html Please read the FAQ at http://www.linux-learn.org/faqs ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 4+ messages in thread
