Good morning folks, 

The company I am with is giving some serious
consideration to deploy security appliance. Such
device monitor the network traffic using "rule-base"
table. There are several vendors out there are pretty
aggressive with such device.  

I wonder whether anyone out there have experiences
with such devices. I would love to hear your input?

Additionally, does anyone happen to know any good
mailing list specifically on the security issue facing
the network?

Mike,

Check out http://www.secnap.net - we use his device and managed service. 
I find his applicance and level of interaction to be excellent. I highly 
reccommend you consider this.
