Matt,
    You found your way to the Lists.Linux.Newbie echo.
It is one of the echos that I pick up from Janis Kracht's bbbs hub. It may well be an internet news group but haven't checked.

One of the things a sysop can do with most bbs software packages is name an echo whatever he wants.  I choose mine just to be same as the official Fido name.  So depends on what bbs you call where or
 what echos you can read.

Remember on bbbs software systems to just enter j to see a list of echos.

Well ... I've never heard of either "linux bbs" or "linux echo", and I'm 
not at all sure what you mean by "group" in this context. But this is a 
mailing list where beginners post questions and (usually) get answers. So 
give it a try.

My fault, I run a BBS that is attached to Fidonet and I gate the mailing list to Fidonet styles echos to broaden the number getting the list :)
