This could I suppose be due to failed allocation where the caller
isn't expecting failure (or using SLAB_PANIC).
Did you manage to test with the prink debugging patch for SLQB that
I sent for the power6 boot failure? I don't think I saw a reply from
you but maybe I missed it?
Thanks,
Nick

No, just stay with SLUB/SLAB for the time being.
Maybe the backtrace looks familiar to Nick?

Hi all,
Changes since 20090626:
New tree: percpu
My fixes tree contains this commit:
fbdev: work around old compiler bug
This tree fails to build for powerpc allyesconfig.
The hid tree lost its build failure.
The rr tree gained a conflict against Linus' tree.
The block tree lost its build failure.
The percpu tree gained a conflict against Linus' tree.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/sfr/linux-next.git
(patches at
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/sfr/linux-next/). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" as mentioned in the FAQ on the wiki
(see below).
You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log files
in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built with
a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig for x86_64. After the
final fixups (if any), it is also built with powerpc allnoconfig (32 and
64 bit), ppc44x_defconfig and allyesconfig (minus
CONFIG_PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES) and i386, sparc and sparc64 defconfig.
These builds also have CONFIG_ENABLE_WARN_DEPRECATED,
CONFIG_ENABLE_MUST_CHECK and CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO disabled when necessary.
Below is a summary of the state of the merge.
We are up to 131 trees (counting Linus' and 19 trees of patches pending for
Linus' tree), more are welcome (even if they are currently empty).
Thanks to those who have contributed, and to those who haven't, please do.
Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.
Thanks to Jan Dittmer for adding the linux-next tree to his build tests
at http://l4x.org/k/ , the guys at http://test.kernel.org/ and Randy
Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds.
There is a wiki covering stuff to do with linux-next at
http://linux.f-seidel.de/linux-next/pmwiki/ . Thanks to Frank Seidel.

* linux-next: manual merge of the percpu tree with Linus' tree
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2009-06-29 5:33 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Tejun Heo, Rusty Russell, Christoph Lameter, Ingo Molnar
Cc: linux-next, linux-kernel, David Howells
Hi all,
Today's linux-next merge of the percpu tree got a conflict in
arch/mn10300/kernel/vmlinux.lds.S between commit
2e8b5a09ebf1f98f02c1988a48415e89d4c25168 ("MN10300: Fix the vmlinux
ldscript") from Linus' tree and commit
405d967dc70002991f8fc35c20e0d3cbc7614f63 ("linker script: throw
away .discard section") from the percpu tree.
Just context changes. I fixed it up (see below) and can carry the fix
for a while.

* linux-next: manual merge of the rr tree with Linus' tree
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2009-06-29 3:43 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Rusty Russell
Cc: linux-next, linux-kernel, Benjamin Herrenschmidt, Mike Travis
Hi Rusty,
Today's linux-next merge of the rr tree got a conflict in
arch/powerpc/platforms/powermac/setup.c between commit
7ccbe504b5ee766d33211a507189a06f3079b29b ("powerpc/pmac: Fix issues with
PowerMac "PowerSurge" SMP") from Linus' tree and commit
67e33aa4710019a5ee52979f7a9c6458729ab2ab
("cpumask:use-cpumap-accessors-powerpc") from the rr tree.
The code modified by the latter was moved to
arch/powerpc/platforms/powermac/smp.c by the former, so I applied the
latter change to this other file (see below).
There is another use of cpu_set in this file as well (which I did not
change).

* Merge request for the Thumb-2 branch
From: Catalin Marinas @ 2009-06-26 16:59 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Stephen Rothwell; +Cc: linux-next, Russell King - ARM Linux
Hi Stephen,
Could you please merge the thumb-2 branch into linux-next:
git://linux-arm.org/linux-2.6.git thumb-2
It adds support for compiling the ARM kernel to the Thumb-2 instruction
set (16 or 32 bit opcodes) and it makes sense to check it doesn't break
other things before the next merging window (it's a bit more intrusive
but limited to arch/arm/* files).
The commits in this branch are:
Catalin Marinas (11):
Thumb-2: Add some .align statements to the .S files
Thumb-2: Add macros for the unified assembler syntax
Thumb-2: Implementation of the unified start-up and exceptions code
Thumb-2: Implement the unified arch/arm/mm support
Thumb-2: Implement the unified arch/arm/lib functions
Thumb-2: Implement the unified VFP support
Thumb-2: Implement the unified boot code
Thumb-2: Add support for loadable modules
Thumb-2: Pass a Thumb-2 address to the secondary CPUs to jump to
Thumb-2: Make the uImage entry an odd number
Thumb-2: Add Thumb-2 support to the build files
Thanks.

I tried to gather some more info about this driver from the link
mentioned in Kconfig:
http://www.windriver.com/products/sbc8240/,
without much success.
If there are no issues, can you please apply this patch to remove it ?

Applied this one. But please in the future do let me know if you haven't
tested or even compiled a patch. When I get an official looking patch
like the previous one, I'll usually apply it directly. Breaking the
build is baaaad.

Hi Stephen,
should be now fixed in the branch you pull into -next.

I tested this time.
Without the patch a 'mount -o journal=1 /dev/md0 /mnt'
followed by writing to /mnt/something produces
Jun 26 15:34:18 dell kernel: JBD: barrier-based sync failed on md0 - disabling barriers
in the kernel logs.
With the patch, it doesn't.
Comment updated slightly too.

Restore barrier support for md and probably other virtual devices.
The next_ordered flag is only meaningful for devices that use __make_request.
So move the test against next_ordered out of generic code and in to
__make_request
Since this test was added, barriers have not worked on md or any
devices that don't use __make_request and so don't bother to set
next_ordered. (dm explicitly sets something other than
QUEUE_ORDERED_NONE since
commit 99360b4c18f7675b50d283301d46d755affe75fd
but notes in the comments that it is otherwise meaningless).

* linux-next: Tree for June 26
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2009-06-26 5:46 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: linux-next; +Cc: LKML
[-- Attachment #1: Type: text/plain, Size: 6923 bytes --]
Hi all,
Changes since 20090625:
My fixes tree contains these two commits:
fbdev: work around old compiler bug
This tree fails to build for powerpc allyesconfig.
Linus' tree lost its build failure.
The block tree lost its complex conflict against Linus' tree but gained a
build failure for which I reverted a commit.
The rr tree has a build failure (for UML) for which I applied a patch.
The tip tree gained a conflict against the ttydev tree.
The kvm tree gained a build failure for which I applied a patch.
The hid tree gained a build failure for which I reverted 2 commits.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/sfr/linux-next.git
(patches at
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/sfr/linux-next/). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" as mentioned in the FAQ on the wiki
(see below).
You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log files
in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built with
a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig for x86_64. After the
final fixups (if any), it is also built with powerpc allnoconfig (32 and
64 bit), ppc44x_defconfig and allyesconfig (minus
CONFIG_PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES) and i386, sparc and sparc64 defconfig.
These builds also have CONFIG_ENABLE_WARN_DEPRECATED,
CONFIG_ENABLE_MUST_CHECK and CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO disabled when necessary.
Below is a summary of the state of the merge.
We are up to 130 trees (counting Linus' and 19 trees of patches pending for
Linus' tree), more are welcome (even if they are currently empty).

Hi Jiri,
Today's linux-next build (sparc32 defconfig) failed like this:
drivers/hid/hid-core.c:862:34: error: macro "hid_dump_input" passed 3 arguments, but takes just 2
drivers/hid/hid-core.c: In function 'hid_process_event':
drivers/hid/hid-core.c:862: error: 'hid_dump_input' undeclared (first use in this function)
drivers/hid/hid-core.c:862: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
drivers/hid/hid-core.c:862: error: for each function it appears in.)
drivers/hid/hid-core.c:984:68: error: macro "hid_dump_input" passed 3 arguments, but takes just 2
drivers/hid/hid-core.c: In function 'hid_set_field':
drivers/hid/hid-core.c:984: error: 'hid_dump_input' undeclared (first use in this function)
drivers/hid/hid-core.c: In function 'hid_input_report':
drivers/hid/hid-core.c:1090: error: 'HID_DEBUG_BUFSIZE' undeclared (first use in this function)
Caused by commit cd667ce24796700e1a0e6e7528efc61c96ff832e ("HID: use
debugfs for events/reports dumping") which modified the prototype for
hid_dump_input, but not the !CONFIG_DEBUG_FS version. It also added
HID_DEBUG_BUFSIZE when CONFIG_DEBUG_FS, but used it otherwise.
I have reverted that commit for today (along with commit
a635f9dd83f3382577f4544a96df12356e951a40 ("HID: use debugfs for report
dumping descriptor") which doesn't build without the other one).

I was certain I ran it through a compile cycle, sorry about that
Stephen. And Neil sending uncompiled patches, very uncool. Did you even
test it? I've pulled it for now.
