* linux-next: Tree for Feb 23

Hi all,

Changes since 20120222:

My fixes tree contains:
tty/powerpc: early udbg consoles can't be modules

The bluetooth tree lost its build failure.

The mmc tree lost its conflict but gained another against the slave-dma
tree.

The akpm tree still has a build failure for which I reverted a
patch.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" as mentioned in the FAQ on the wiki
(see below).

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log files
in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built with
a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig for x86_64. After the
final fixups (if any), it is also built with powerpc allnoconfig (32 and
64 bit), ppc44x_defconfig and allyesconfig (minus
CONFIG_PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES - this fails its final link) and i386, sparc
and sparc64 defconfig. These builds also have
CONFIG_ENABLE_WARN_DEPRECATED, CONFIG_ENABLE_MUST_CHECK and
CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO disabled when necessary.

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

We are up to 182 trees (counting Linus' and 26 trees of patches pending
for Linus' tree), more are welcome (even if they are currently empty).
Thanks to those who have contributed, and to those who haven't, please do.

Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.

Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds.

There is a wiki covering stuff to do with linux-next at
http://linux.f-seidel.de/linux-next/pmwiki/ . Thanks to Frank Seidel.

* linux-next: manual merge of the mmc tree with the slave-dma tree
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2012-02-23 0:40 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: Chris Ball

Hi Chris,

Today's linux-next merge of the mmc tree got a conflict in
drivers/mmc/host/atmel-mci.c between commit e2b35f3dbfc0
("dmaengine/dw_dmac: Fix dw_dmac user drivers to adapt to slave_config
changes") from the slave-dma tree and commit 43df92914ea0 ("mmc:
atmel-mci: don't use dma features when dma is present but there is no
chan available") from the mmc tree.

Just context changes. I fixed it up (see below) and can carry the fix as
necessary.

* [PATCH] ppc-6xx: fix build failure in flipper-pic.c and hlwd-pic.c
From: Paul Gortmaker @ 2012-02-22 23:35 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: grant.likely; +Cc: linuxppc-dev, linux-next, olof, Paul Gortmaker

The commit bae1d8f19983fbfa25559aa3cb6a81a84aa82a18 (linux-next)

"irq_domain/powerpc: Use common irq_domain structure instead of irq_host"

made this change:

   -static struct irq_host *flipper_irq_host;
   +static struct irq_domain *flipper_irq_host;

and this change:

   -static struct irq_host *hlwd_irq_host;
   +static struct irq_domain *hlwd_irq_host;

The intent was to change the type, and not the name, but then in a
couple of instances, it looks like the sed to change the irq_domain_ops
name inadvertently also changed the irq_host name where it was not
supposed to, causing build failures.

Since this build error is still occurring in linux-next 20120222,
I looked and found that the Ecode is misspelled.

Please s/EOPNOTSUP/EOPNOTSUPP/

* linux-next: Tree for Feb 22
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2012-02-22 5:28 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: linux-next; +Cc: LKML

[-- Attachment #1: Type: text/plain, Size: 41574 bytes --]

Hi all,

Changes since 20120221:

My fixes tree contains:
tty/powerpc: early udbg consoles can't be modules

The bluetooth tree gained a build failure so I used the version from
next-20120221.

The mmc tree gained a conflict against the s5p tree.

The mfd tree lost its build failure.

The akpm tree still has a build failure for which I reverted a
patch. It gained another build failure for which I applied a patch.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" as mentioned in the FAQ on the wiki
(see below).

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log files
in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built with
a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig for x86_64. After the
final fixups (if any), it is also built with powerpc allnoconfig (32 and
64 bit), ppc44x_defconfig and allyesconfig (minus
CONFIG_PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES - this fails its final link) and i386, sparc
and sparc64 defconfig. These builds also have
CONFIG_ENABLE_WARN_DEPRECATED, CONFIG_ENABLE_MUST_CHECK and
CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO disabled when necessary.

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

We are up to 182 trees (counting Linus' and 26 trees of patches pending
for Linus' tree), more are welcome (even if they are currently empty).
Thanks to those who have contributed, and to those who haven't, please do.

Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.

Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds.

There is a wiki covering stuff to do with linux-next at
http://linux.f-seidel.de/linux-next/pmwiki/ . Thanks to Frank Seidel.

Hi Andrew,

After merging the akpm tree, today's linux-next build (x86_64
allmodconfig) failed like this:

In file included from arch/x86/include/asm/suspend_64.h:10:0,
                 from arch/x86/include/asm/suspend.h:4,

Caused by commits "percpu: remove percpu_xxx() functions" and "x86:
change percpu_read_stable() to this_cpu_read_stable()" from the akpm tree
interacting with commit 7e16838d94b5 ("i387: support lazy restore of FPU
state") from Linus' tree.

I applied the following patch for today.

Hi,

I'm really disappointed with samsung sdhci merge. we sent several
patches, one month or two month ago. e.g., simple patch adding caps2
overrides feature.

To resolve these issue fianlly. can you move all mmc related things to
include/linux/platform_da
ta/ and controlled by mmc maintainer?

I hope no more dependency with arch codes and drivers codes.

Thank you,
Kyungmin Park

Hi Chris,

Today's linux-next merge of the mmc tree got a conflict in
drivers/mmc/host/sdhci-s3c.c between commit bd0955ed6b1b ("mmc:
sdhci-s3c: add platform data for the second capability") from the s5p
tree and commit 7880741a0625 ("mmc: sdhci-s3c: derive transfer width host
capability from max_width in platform data") from the mmc tree.

Just context changes. I fixed it up (see below) and can carry the fix as
necessary.

That patch series was meant to go in as a group, because all of the
subsequent patches depend upon patches earlier in the series.

There is zero reason you should have applied that patch into your
bluetooth subsystem tree. The fact that it wasn't adequately build
tested either I find quite troubling.

Lots of red cards for the bluetooth maintainers today.

Hi Gustavo,

After merging the bluetooth tree, today's linux-next build
(x86_64_allmodconfig) failed like this:

net/bluetooth/hci_sock.c: In function 'hci_sock_cmsg':
net/bluetooth/hci_sock.c:738:8: error: 'COMPAT_USE_64BIT_TIME' undeclared (first use in this function)

Caused by commit aebb77ca6ad1 ("compat: Use COMPAT_USE_64BIT_TIME in the
Bluetooth subsystem"). That symbol doesn't exist anywhere in linux-next ...

I have used the bluetooth from next-20120221 for today.

P.S. that commit is supposedly authored by H. J. Lu but does not contain
a Signed-off-by from him.

You probably meant the arch endian bug. I wrote a patch for it, but
guess i never sent it. It was just sitting on my audit arm branch. So
I just sent that one as well.

I never pushed that out because I thought someone was going to fix it.
Were any patches produced to fix it? I can't see anything in the patch
system and I couldn't see anything on the list.

It seems the previous thread about it just died. Oh well, I guess a

This was already reported and I think Russell was going to revert the
offending commit, since it needed some rework to handle little-endian
configurations.

I can't see the revert in any of the trees I'm tracking though...

* [PATCH - linux-next] ARM: ptrace: Fix audit caused compile error
From: Peter Ujfalusi @ 2012-02-21 12:04 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: linux-next
Cc: Stephen Rothwell, Eric Paris, Nathaniel Husted, linux-audit,
	linux-arm-kernel, peter.ujfalusi

While trying to compile the kernel for ARM (omap2plus_defconfig) the kernel
build fails with:

arch/arm/kernel/ptrace.c: In function ‘syscall_trace’:
arch/arm/kernel/ptrace.c:920:3: error: implicit declaration of function ‘audit_syscall_exit’
arch/arm/kernel/ptrace.c:922:3: error: implicit declaration of function ‘audit_syscall_entry’
arch/arm/kernel/ptrace.c:922:23: error: ‘AUDIT_ARCH_ARMEB’ undeclared (first use in this function)
arch/arm/kernel/ptrace.c:922:23: note: each undeclared identifier is reported only once for each function it appears in
make[1]: *** [arch/arm/kernel/ptrace.o] Error 1

The issue created by commit:
29ef73b7 Kernel: Audit Support For The ARM Platform

We need to include the linux/audit.h header to the arch/arm/kernel/ptrace.c
file to be able to compile the kernel.

Although this patchset will most likely go through Liam's ASoC tree, I pushed
Peter fix on mine for now.
So it should build fine now.

Thanks for the heads up.

Cheers,
Samuel.

I had that one queued up as well. Patch applied, thanks for the quick reply.

* [PATCH] MFD/Input/ASoC: twl6040 kconfig fixes

To avoid breaking x86_64 allmodconfig build the Kconfig files need to be
changed.
Change the dependency graph of the twl6040 stack.

Hi Stephen, Samuel,

This patch will fix the build failure with x86_64 allmodconfig, and it will
still work on the target platform.

As a note: this series might not be going via the mfd tree at the end since
some of the dependencies are going via sound tree. We are discussing the way
forward.

Regards,
Peter

* linux-next: Tree for Feb 21
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2012-02-21 4:58 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: linux-next; +Cc: LKML

[-- Attachment #1: Type: text/plain, Size: 41201 bytes --]

Hi all,

Changes since 20120220:

The net-next tree lost its build failure.

The mfd tree gained a build failure so I used the version from
next-20120220.

The akpm tree still has a couple of build failures for which I reverted a
patch and applied a patch.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" as mentioned in the FAQ on the wiki
(see below).

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log files
in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built with
a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig for x86_64. After the
final fixups (if any), it is also built with powerpc allnoconfig (32 and
64 bit), ppc44x_defconfig and allyesconfig (minus
CONFIG_PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES - this fails its final link) and i386, sparc
and sparc64 defconfig. These builds also have
CONFIG_ENABLE_WARN_DEPRECATED, CONFIG_ENABLE_MUST_CHECK and
CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO disabled when necessary.

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

We are up to 182 trees (counting Linus' and 26 trees of patches pending
for Linus' tree), more are welcome (even if they are currently empty).
Thanks to those who have contributed, and to those who haven't, please do.

Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.

Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds.

There is a wiki covering stuff to do with linux-next at
http://linux.f-seidel.de/linux-next/pmwiki/ . Thanks to Frank Seidel.

Applied, thanks. Sorry, Randy for not getting to your patch before
this. I tend to review and apply patches in a fairly bursty fashion.

* linux-next: build failure after merge of the mfd tree
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2012-02-21 1:31 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Samuel Ortiz; +Cc: linux-next, linux-kernel, Peter Ujfalusi

[-- Attachment #1: Type: text/plain, Size: 754 bytes --]

Hi Samuel,

After merging the mfd tree, today's linux-next build (x86_64 allmodconfig)
failed like this:

drivers/built-in.o: In function `twl6040_driver_init':
twl6040-core.c:(.init.text+0xb147): undefined reference to `i2c_register_driver'
drivers/built-in.o: In function `twl6040_probe':
twl6040-core.c:(.devinit.text+0x7f22): undefined reference to `regmap_init_i2c'
drivers/built-in.o: In function `twl6040_driver_exit':
twl6040-core.c:(.exit.text+0x67a): undefined reference to `i2c_del_driver'

Caused by commit ded0df851077 ("mfd: Convert twl6040 to an i2c driver,
and separate it from twl core").

I have used the mfd tree from next-20120220 for today.

Grant,

This seems to be broken in your tree (since 301b605ff6), so you should
probably pick up this patch.
