Hi all,

Changes since 20120227:

My fixes tree contains:
x86, efi: Fix unaligned access and endian issues

The pci tree still has its build failure for which I applied a patch.

The net-next tree lost its conflict.

The devicetree tree gained a conflict against the powerpc tree.

The uprobes tree lost several conflicts but gained another against Linus' tree.

The regmap tree lost its build failure.

The driver-core tree gained a conflict against the pci tree.

The tty tree lost its build failure.

The staging tree still has its build failure for which I reverted a commit.

The moduleh tree lost its build failure.

The irqdomain tree gained a conflict against the powerpc tree.

The akpm tree lost its build failure and several patches that turned up
elsewhere and gained a conflict against the tip tree. It also gained a
build failure for which I applied a merge fix patch.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" as mentioned in the FAQ on the wiki
(see below).

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log files
in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built with
a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig for x86_64. After the
final fixups (if any), it is also built with powerpc allnoconfig (32 and
64 bit), ppc44x_defconfig and allyesconfig (minus
CONFIG_PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES - this fails its final link) and i386, sparc
and sparc64 defconfig. These builds also have
CONFIG_ENABLE_WARN_DEPRECATED, CONFIG_ENABLE_MUST_CHECK and
CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO disabled when necessary.

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

We are up to 182 trees (counting Linus' and 26 trees of patches pending
for Linus' tree), more are welcome (even if they are currently empty).
Thanks to those who have contributed, and to those who haven't, please do.

Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.

Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds.

There is a wiki covering stuff to do with linux-next at
http://linux.f-seidel.de/linux-next/pmwiki/ . Thanks to Frank Seidel.

sorry, but i'm not seeing any e-mails from Carlos in this thread. what is his
suggestion ?

my suggestion was purely an incremental improvement on the patch you posted.
it improves two things:
	- detection when the default tuple is hppa2.0-xxx rather than hppa-xxx
	- one line for set-variable-only-when-its-unset rather than three lines

* linux-next: build failure after merge of the akpm tree
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2012-02-28 5:58 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Andrew Morton; +Cc: linux-next, linux-kernel, Mark Brown, Akinobu Mita

Hi Andrew,

After merging the akpm tree, today's linux-next build (x86_64
allmodconfig) failed like this:

drivers/base/regmap/regcache-lzo.c: In function 'regcache_lzo_sync':
drivers/base/regmap/regcache-lzo.c:344:2: error: implicit declaration of function 'for_each_set_bit_cont' [-Werror=implicit-function-declaration]
drivers/base/regmap/regcache-lzo.c:345:41: error: expected ';' before '{' token
drivers/base/regmap/regcache-lzo.c:340:6: warning: unused variable 'ret' [-Wunused-variable]
drivers/base/regmap/regcache-lzo.c:338:15: warning: unused variable 'val' [-Wunused-variable]
drivers/base/regmap/regcache-lzo.c:368:1: warning: no return statement in function returning non-void [-Wreturn-type]

Caused by commits ac8d91c80190 ("regmap: Supply ranges to the sync
operations" and a0941e562e80 ("regmap: Fix x86_64 breakage") from the
regmap tree interacting with commits "bitops: rename for_each_set_bit_cont()
in favor of analogous list.h function" and "bitops: remove
for_each_set_bit_cont()" from the akpm tree.

I have applied this fix up patch:

Hi Andrew,

Today's linux-next merge of the akpm tree got a conflict in
arch/x86/kernel/nmi_selftest.c between commit f0ba662a6e06 ("x86:

yes. we rename pci_remove_* to pci_stop_and_remove_*.

BTW, include/linux/pci.h looks like a mess. We should tidy it up

How is that different from Carlos' suggestion? The reason it doesn't
work is the same ... CROSS_COMPILE is defined to be empty.

arch/powerpc/platforms/iseries/Kconfig between commit 3d066d77cf46

The former commit removes the file (as the legacy iSeries platform is

Automated scripts? Something else? I'd be interested to know.

I have to admit being confused by this as well. I paged through the
git whatchanged info, and guessed that I should have used a prefix
like "ASoC: mpc5200_dma" (camelcase sic) but I think that to expect
that level of awareness from general contributors is probably expecting
a bit much. I like to think I'm not totally clueless, but I would have
never thought of the above in advance...

In any case, if I have further fixups I happen across, I will try to feed
your bots the correct prefix.

Paul.

The irqdomain branch has already been made stable for that exact
reason with other trees. I'll get it fixed up and send out an update.
I've got 4 hours on a plane tomorrow, so I'll probably crank it out
then.

Oops ... that was meant to read (long) not (long long)... Any ways, I
more or less convinced myself that even without the sign extension it
would still work, since the IO port number is eventually cast to an
unsigned int by the accessors, so as long as the low 32-bits are correct
(and they'll be with or without the sign extension), we should be fine.
It's just that something trying to print the resource might end up
displaying garbage in the top bits.

Cheers,
Ben.

Sounds right to me. Thanks.

One of the x86_64 failing configs is attached.
I had 5 such build failures in 20 builds.

I pushed it out, it is in linux-next, and next-20120227 built fine for
me. Can you send me your .config?

There's an awful lot more than just this wrong with that Makefile. For
instance, NATIVE can never be set because ifeq() isn't globbing in make
scripts ... So I think a final (and dynamically choosing if unset)
solution is this one.

I'll stop now before I find something else wrong ...

Can you explain what that means? What are "changelog headers"?

We can't do that ... it crashes a standard build almost immediately
because it doesn't pick the 64 bit compiler (and we have no biarch
solution).

We need make on a 64 bit config to work out of the box. It breaks
with ?= as JDA pointed out because CROSS_COMPILE is always defined.
Does this satisfy everyone?

Hi

I had a quick look with gitweb. The following change causes the problem, comments inline:

here, some lines are missing:
  #ifndef MULTI_PACKET
  #define MULTI_PACKET
  #endif
adding these will fix the compile error.

The names here are wrong. The prefix EGALAX_ is only for eGalax controllers and some
of them are already defined in the eGalax part of the driver. This will re-define them
which is not good. Please use ETOUCH_... instead.

The description states that packets can be 10 bytes long, but this case is not
handled here. How does the 10 byte packet look like? Is it two five byte packets?
How is the format? What is contained in the other 5 bytes?

Anyway: if it's two 5 byte packets, shouldn't the data from both packets be used
for _one_ input event for increased accuracy or something?
If it's not two 5 byte packets, the function must return 10 for a 10 byte packet.
Otherwise the driver will have to sync for each packet (which works fine but is slower).
