If this is upsetting people I can remove them. Last time I got
feedback from at least one (driver) subsystem maintainer that (if I
understood it correctly) indicated they would like to have seen the
patch in linux-next without problems before upstreaming it through
their tree. That was my motivation for including it here. I'm not
trying to bypass other maintainers to push patches upstream and I can
remove all non-arch/sh stuff from for-next if that would be better.

Drivers will go upstream through their proper subsystem maintainers,
not from my tree, but last time I got feedback that these drivers had
not seen any testing in linux-next. I can refrain from including
patches that I can't upstream directly in my for-next branch in the
future if you'd prefer but this way seemed to make less work for
others.

Squashed it into the above commit and pushed everything out.

Yes, right. Sorry, previous email got lost in the shuffle since I was
on vacation.

Right, commit 4585082afab4 ("regulator: pwm: Support extra continuous
mode cases") is the one that renamed the parameters and so this use of
one of the parameters needs to be part of that commit.

Thanks!

Rich,

why are these changes in linux-next ?

Except I am missing something, I don't see a new version sent for review
on the mailing list. The interrupt controller driver is almost empty as
stated by Marc Zyngier and there is no explanation / discussion about it.

I don't know the goal of adding those patches in linux-next via your
tree, may be you misunderstood how linux-next works and you should
remove them. But if the purpose was to merge the patches, I remind you
that being an arch maintainer does not give you the right to apply any
patches, everywhere, at all cost, without review, because you want them
in, you must follow the process, otherwise you take the risk to upset a
lot of people and to be kicked out.

Cool! objtool is fixed, we're not at a different tool using those
headers, and your patch fixes it, I see Andy acked it, I'll merge this
and push to Ingo,

Jarkko and Mika are on holidays, I recently noticed this thread,
sorry. For now your solution seems okay, since we can't push broken
parts into v4.8-rc1.

And why is that driver coming through the superh tree and not through the
clocksource maintainers? It's not only based on an old interface it's probably
unreviewed as well ...

Since Linus has merged the staging tree, this file will need to be
removed when the block tree is merged into Linus' tree.

* linux-next: Tree for Jul 25
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2016-07-25 6:17 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: linux-next; +Cc: linux-kernel

Hi all,

Changes since 20160724:

The powerpc tree still had its build failure for which I applied a fix patch.

The vfs tree gained conflicts against the f2fs and overlayfs trees.

The nvdimm tree gained a conflict against the kvm tree.

Non-merge commits (relative to Linus' tree): 11060
 10157 files changed, 569997 insertions(+), 204782 deletions(-)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" and checkout or reset to the new
master.

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log
files in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built
with a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig (with
CONFIG_BUILD_DOCSRC=n) for x86_64, a multi_v7_defconfig for arm and a
native build of tools/perf. After the final fixups (if any), I do an
x86_64 modules_install followed by builds for x86_64 allnoconfig,
powerpc allnoconfig (32 and 64 bit), ppc44x_defconfig, allyesconfig
(this fails its final link) and pseries_le_defconfig and i386, sparc
and sparc64 defconfig.

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

I am currently merging 240 trees (counting Linus' and 35 trees of patches
pending for Linus' tree).

Stats about the size of the tree over time can be seen at
http://neuling.org/linux-next-size.html .

Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.

Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds. And to Paul
Gortmaker for triage and bug fixes.

* linux-next: manual merge of the nvdimm tree with the kvm tree
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2016-07-25 4:46 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Dan Williams, Marcelo Tosatti, Gleb Natapov, kvm
Cc: linux-next, linux-kernel, Yunhong Jiang, Paolo Bonzini,
	Haozhong Zhang

Hi Dan,

Today's linux-next merge of the nvdimm tree got a conflict in:

  arch/x86/kvm/vmx.c

between commits:

64672c95ea4c ("kvm: vmx: hook preemption timer support")
37e4c997dadf ("KVM: VMX: validate individual bits of guest MSR_IA32_FEATURE_CONTROL")

from the kvm tree and commit:

dfa169bbee00 ("Revert "KVM: x86: add pcommit support"")

from the nvdimm tree.

I fixed it up (see below) and can carry the fix as necessary. This
is now fixed as far as linux-next is concerned, but any non trivial
conflicts should be mentioned to your upstream maintainer when your tree
is submitted for merging. You may also want to consider cooperating
with the maintainer of the conflicting tree to minimise any particularly
complex conflicts.

Stephen Rothwell

Assuming the J2 SMP changes go upstream this merge window, should I
simply cite this conflict and your patch when sending the pull request
to Linux, or include the merge fix patch myself?

Thanks. I'll make that change for sending to the subsystem maintainer
and include it in my next rebase of for-next.

FWIW, if Miklos could pick that one-liner into overlayfs tree, I'd be only
happy to drop it from that queue.

Hi Al,

Today's linux-next merge of the vfs tree got a conflict in:

  fs/overlayfs/super.c

between commit:

e2475b7276d0 ("ovl: check mounter creds on underlying lookup")

from the overlayfs tree and commit:

b3ac9a85b31c ("qstr: constify instances in overlayfs")

from the vfs tree.

* linux-next: manual merge of the vfs tree with the f2fs tree
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2016-07-25 0:21 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Al Viro, Jaegeuk Kim; +Cc: linux-next, linux-kernel, Chao Yu

Hi Al,

Today's linux-next merge of the vfs tree got conflicts in:

  fs/f2fs/dir.c
  fs/f2fs/f2fs.h

between commit:

91246c21b859 ("f2fs: fix to report error number of f2fs_find_entry")

from the f2fs tree and commit:

14bffd7c398a ("qstr: constify instances in f2fs")

from the vfs tree.
