* linux-next: Tree for May 25
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2017-05-25 2:43 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Linux-Next Mailing List; +Cc: Linux Kernel Mailing List

Hi all,

Changes since 20170524:

The net-next tree gained a conflict against the net tree.

The spi tree lost its build failure.

The pinctrl tree gained a conflict against the mvebu tree.

Non-merge commits (relative to Linus' tree): 2527
 2836 files changed, 105000 insertions(+), 58599 deletions(-)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" and checkout or reset to the new
master.

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log
files in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built
with a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig (with
CONFIG_BUILD_DOCSRC=n) for x86_64, a multi_v7_defconfig for arm and a
native build of tools/perf. After the final fixups (if any), I do an
x86_64 modules_install followed by builds for x86_64 allnoconfig,
powerpc allnoconfig (32 and 64 bit), ppc44x_defconfig, allyesconfig
and pseries_le_defconfig and i386, sparc and sparc64 defconfig.

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

I am currently merging 260 trees (counting Linus' and 40 trees of bug
fix patches pending for the current merge release).

Stats about the size of the tree over time can be seen at
http://neuling.org/linux-next-size.html .

Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.

Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds. And to Paul
Gortmaker for triage and bug fixes.

Stephen Rothwell

I saw the patch, but it doesn't seem to have been applied anywhere yet.

* linux-next: manual merge of the pinctrl tree with the mvebu tree

Hi Linus,

Today's linux-next merge of the pinctrl tree got a conflict in:

  MAINTAINERS

between commit:

e7c1572f6565 ("MAINTAINERS: sort F entries for Marvell EBU maintainers")

from the mvebu tree and commit:

15accb3cbbcd ("MAINTAINERS: extend mvebu SoC entry with pinctrl drivers")

from the pinctrl tree.

I fixed it up (see below) and can carry the fix as necessary. This
is now fixed as far as linux-next is concerned, but any non trivial
conflicts should be mentioned to your upstream maintainer when your tree
is submitted for merging. You may also want to consider cooperating
with the maintainer of the conflicting tree to minimise any particularly
complex conflicts.

* linux-next: manual merge of the net-next tree with the net tree
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2017-05-24 23:34 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: David Miller, Networking
Cc: Linux-Next Mailing List, Linux Kernel Mailing List, Andrew Lunn

Hi all,

Today's linux-next merge of the net-next tree got a conflict in:

  drivers/net/phy/marvell.c

between commit:

f2899788353c ("net: phy: marvell: Limit errata to 88m1101")

from the net tree and commit:

0c3439bc7773 ("net: phy: Marvell: checkpatch - Comments")

from the net-next tree.

I fixed it up (I just used the former version) and can carry the fix as
necessary. This is now fixed as far as linux-next is concerned, but any
non trivial conflicts should be mentioned to your upstream maintainer
when your tree is submitted for merging. You may also want to consider
cooperating with the maintainer of the conflicting tree to minimise any
particularly complex conflicts.

Hi Mark

since commit 8d4a6cad7adb ("spi: imx: dynamic burst length adjust for PIO mode
")
has been reverted, then
commit 1ce1c618e6b5 ("spi: imx: only allow dynamic burst in PIO mode")
need to be reverted as well.

I can submit another version of patch set, with all founded issues be addressed
after that.

Thanks,
Jiada

* linux-next: Tree for May 24
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2017-05-24 3:23 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Linux-Next Mailing List; +Cc: Linux Kernel Mailing List

Hi all,

Changes since 20170523:

The spi tree gained a build failure so I used the version from
next-20170523.

Non-merge commits (relative to Linus' tree): 2264
 2585 files changed, 85073 insertions(+), 52432 deletions(-)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" and checkout or reset to the new
master.

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log
files in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built
with a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig (with
CONFIG_BUILD_DOCSRC=n) for x86_64, a multi_v7_defconfig for arm and a
native build of tools/perf.

* linux-next: build failure after merge of the spi tree
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2017-05-24 1:08 UTC (permalink / raw)

Hi Mark,

After merging the spi tree, today's linux-next build (x86_64 allmodconfig)
failed like this:

drivers/spi/spi-imx.c: In function 'spi_imx_can_dma':
drivers/spi/spi-imx.c:241:9: error: 'struct spi_imx_data' has no member named 'dynamic_burst'
  spi_imx->dynamic_burst = 0;
         ^

Caused by commit

09b3ed2d5916 ("spi: imx: Revert "spi: imx: dynamic burst length adjust for PIO mode"")

interacting with commit

1ce1c618e6b5 ("spi: imx: only allow dynamic burst in PIO mode")

from a separate topic branch and not fixing it up in the merge. Although
that second commit could never have built anyway on its own :-(

I have used the spi tree from next-20170523 for today.

Thanks for the pointer; there was a stale copy there, which has now been
zapped.

Hopefully we're conflict-free for next-20170524.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Mark.

Sorry about that. I believe Arnd (CCed) posted a patch to resolve
this problem which Ulf has applied.

The patch is "[PATCH] mmc: renesas-sdhi: export renesas_sdhi_probe"

* linux-next: Tree for May 23
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2017-05-23 4:39 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Linux-Next Mailing List; +Cc: Linux Kernel Mailing List

Hi all,

Changes since 20170522:

The net-next tree lost its build failure.

The drm-misc tree gained a conflict against the drm-intel tree.

Non-merge commits (relative to Linus' tree): 2206
 2551 files changed, 83651 insertions(+), 50797 deletions(-)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" and checkout or reset to the new
master.

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log
files in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built
with a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig (with
CONFIG_BUILD_DOCSRC=n) for x86_64, a multi_v7_defconfig for arm and a
native build of tools/perf.

* linux-next: manual merge of the drm-misc tree with the drm-intel tree
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2017-05-23 2:00 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Daniel Vetter, Intel Graphics, DRI
Cc: Linux-Next Mailing List, Linux Kernel Mailing List, Robert Foss,
	Ville Syrjälä

Hi all,

Today's linux-next merge of the drm-misc tree got a conflict in:

  drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_display.c

between commits:

  1cecc830e6b6 ("drm/i915: Refactor CURBASE calculation")
024faac7d59b ("drm/i915: Support variable cursor height on ivb+")

from the drm-intel tree and commit:

c2c446ad2943 ("drm: Add DRM_MODE_ROTATE_ and DRM_MODE_REFLECT_ to UAPI")

from the drm-misc tree.

Cheers,
Stephen Rothwell

Yes, it was fetched just before being merged. I use the auto-latest
branch of the tip tree which may not be as up to date as the master
branch.

Well, except that I only fixed up that one spot, the rest of the commit
from the tip tree was still there.
