Ok the problem seems to have changed now. After reinstalling lilo and the
kernel I was able to use lilo. However, only the first hard drive will
boot. If I disable the first hard drive and try and boot off the second I get

L 40

When I reinstalled LILO it installed a MBR on /dev/hda so now when lilo boots
it shows

MBR

LILO 22.2

I'm not sure if this is right.

Here is my lilo.conf

lba32
boot=/dev/md0
root=/dev/md0
install=/boot/boot.b
delay=20
map=/boot/map
vga=normal
image=/vmlinuz
        label=Linux
        read-only

And cat /proc/mdstat

candela:~# cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [raid1]
read_ahead 1024 sectors
md0 : active raid1 hdc1[1] hda1[0]
      192640 blocks [2/2] [UU]

md1 : active raid1 hdc6[1] hda6[0]
      2931712 blocks [2/2] [UU]

md2 : active raid1 hdc7[1] hda7[0]
      19534912 blocks [2/2] [UU]

md3 : active raid1 hdc8[1] hda8[0]
      15430336 blocks [2/2] [UU]

unused devices: <none>

thanks, Iain.
