This is probably the best fix: a modern driver should never die in init unless there's some failure because soft binding or hotplug can come along later with the actual device. I could make the remain in place conditional on CONFIG_PCI, but that would produce a strange driver that would behave differently depending on how you compile it. So, try this as the fix.
