There are a significant amount of users across a wide variety of
architectures and boards that I have no means to properly test to insure
I'm avoiding regressions. My current approach which I've seen other
drivers in the past use when in similar situations allows things to work
without regressions.

I don't see any current defconfig that enables CONFIG_PM_CLK and only a
handful of instances where functions from clock_ops.c are actually used.
I don't quite understand what your suggestion is but in general I'm
concerned since any approach to move everyone to different apis is
rather risky especially for a critical driver.

If I'm missing your point please let me know.

You might be right but I can't be confident that it is indeed the case.
But its possible that at some point people will start having problems if
they try to use this driver for other UART instances. The currently
could not be aware of an issue because of the bootloader powering things
for them or even that different UART instances could be apart of a non
always on power domain.

Looking at configs that enable CONFIG_SERIAL_OF_PLATFORM I see quite a
bit of users from different arch. ARM, OpenRISC, MicroBlaze, Nios2,
PowerPC, MIPS, Xtensa and Arc.

Looking at dts that enable some of the compatible it is still a
combination of quite a bit of architectures.

The current approach I've taken should be safe for all users of this
driver which. I have no issue going another approach as long as its
understood that I'm fairly limited in what I can test when you take into
account the large number of users of this driver.

* [PATCH v3] earlycon: initialise baud field of earlycon device structure

For now baud field of earlycon structure device is't initialised at all
in of_setup_earlycon (in oppositе to register_earlycon).

So when I use stdout-path to point earlycon device
(like stdout-path = &serial or stdout-path = "serial:115200n8")
baud field of earlycon device structure remains uninitialised and
earlycon initialization is not performed correctly as
of_setup_earlycon is used.
When pass all arguments via bootargs
(like bootargs = "earlycon=uart8250,mmio32,0xf0005000,115200n8")
initialization is performed correctly as register_earlycon is used.

So initialise baud field of earlycon device structure by value of
"current-speed" property from device tree or from options
(if they exist) when we use of_setup_earlycon

   options string which includes arguments except baudrate (like "115200n8")

NOTE:
I don't add parsing of the other standard options here because we don't
have any place to store them. When we parce and set options of the 'real'
uart device (using uart_parse_options + uart_set_options) we populate
ktermios structure an pass it to port->ops->set_termios callback of
uart_port structure. So it is processing by uart driver itself. But we don't
register such callbacks for earlycon. So we are only able to parse baud
value, which can be stored in baud field of earlycon_device structure.

Do we really have users like that? And even if there are, cant they use
PM clock handling support available in drivers/base/power/clock_ops.c ?

The clock enable support itself was added pretty "recently" - about 5
years back with 0bbeb3c3e84b ("of serial port driver - add
clk_get_rate() support"). So I doubt any really legacy platforms relied
on clock support being there. It was added by Murali, I assume for
Keystone devices. Keystone devices can work with runtime PM using the PM
clock support pointed to above.

Perhaps linux-arm-kernel list should be copied on this submission too,
since most users of this driver are likely to be there on that list.

Driver adds support of Aspeed 2500/2400 series SOC JTAG master controller.

Driver implements the following jtag ops:
- freq_get;
- freq_set;
- status_get;
- idle;
- xfer;

It has been tested on Mellanox system with BMC equipped with
Aspeed 2520 SoC for programming CPLD devices.

Initial patch for JTAG friver
JTAG class driver provide infrastructure to support hardware/software
JTAG platform drivers. It provide user layer API interface for flashing
and debugging external devices which equipped with JTAG interface
using standard transactions.

Driver exposes set of IOCTL to user space for:
- XFER:
- SIR (Scan Instruction Register, IEEE 1149.1 Data Register scan);
- SDR (Scan Data Register, IEEE 1149.1 Instruction Register scan);
- RUNTEST (Forces the IEEE 1149.1 bus to a run state for a specified
  number of clocks).
- SIOCFREQ/GIOCFREQ for setting and reading JTAG frequency.

Driver core provides set of internal APIs for allocation and
registration:
- jtag_register;
- jtag_unregister;
- jtag_alloc;
- jtag_free;

Platform driver on registration with jtag-core creates the next
entry in dev folder:
/dev/jtagX

When a need raise up to use JTAG interface for system's devices
programming or CPU debugging, usually the user layer
application implements jtag protocol by bit-bang or using a 
proprietary connection to vendor hardware.
This method can be slow and not generic.
 
We propose to implement general JTAG interface and infrastructure
to communicate with user layer application. In such way, we can
have the standard JTAG interface core part and separation from
specific HW implementation.
This allow new capability to debug the CPU or program system's 
device via BMC without additional devices nor cost. 

This patch purpose is to add JTAG master core infrastructure by 
defining new JTAG class and provide generic JTAG interface
to allow hardware specific drivers to connect this interface.
This will enable all JTAG drivers to use the common interface
part and will have separate for hardware implementation.

The JTAG (Joint Test Action Group) core driver provides minimal generic
JTAG interface, which can be used by hardware specific JTAG master
controllers. By providing common interface for the JTAG controllers,
user space device programing is hardware independent.
 
Modern SoC which in use for embedded system' equipped with
internal JTAG master interface.
This interface is used for programming and debugging system's
hardware components, like CPLD, FPGA, CPU, voltage and
industrial controllers.
Firmware for such devices can be upgraded through JTAG interface during
Runtime. The JTAG standard support for multiple devices programming,
is in case their lines are daisy-chained together.

For example, systems which equipped with host CPU, BMC SoC or/and 
number of programmable devices are capable to connect a pin and
select system components dynamically for programming and debugging,
This is using by the BMC which is equipped with internal SoC master
controller.
For example:

BMC JTAG master --> pin selected to CPLDs chain for programming (filed
upgrade, production) 
BMC JTAG master --> pin selected to voltage monitors for programming 
(field upgrade, production) 
BMC JTAG master --> pin selected to host CPU (on-site debugging 
and developers debugging)

For example, we can have application in user space which using calls
to JTAG driver executes CPLD programming directly from SVF file
 
The JTAG standard (IEEE 1149.1) defines the next connector pins:
- TDI (Test Data In);
- TDO (Test Data Out);
- TCK (Test Clock);
- TMS (Test Mode Select);
- TRST (Test Reset) (Optional);

The SoC equipped with JTAG master controller, performs
device programming on command or vector level. For example
a file in a standard SVF (Serial Vector Format) that contains
boundary scan vectors, can be used by sending each vector
to the JTAG interface and the JTAG controller will execute
the programming.

Initial version provides the system calls set for:
- SIR (Scan Instruction Register, IEEE 1149.1 Data Register scan);
- SDR (Scan Data Register, IEEE 1149.1 Instruction Register scan);
- RUNTEST (Forces the IEEE 1149.1 bus to a run state for a specified
  number of clocks.

SoC which are not equipped with JTAG master interface, can be built
on top of JTAG core driver infrastructure, by applying bit-banging of
TDI, TDO, TCK and TMS pins within the hardware specific driver.

layout with extra registers such as DMA enablement so it tends to be

And the controller is made as being compatible with the 8250 register

have no requirement for the modem configuration additionally such as the
baud rate calculation and assignment.

I'll definitely look into that… however I think the long-term plan in
this case is to expand the RS-485 IOCTL once some research is done into
what settings it should include.

I personally would like to see a sysfs interface in addition to enable
the possibility of udev rules configuring a port prior to its use,
however others have indicated that may result in a race condition.  A
dual-interface (ioctl + sysfs) would give us the best of both worlds,
and that link sounds like an ideal way of doing the sysfs part.

Since v2: 
- reusing 8250_of since the original driver has almost the same logic

This patchset introduces the support for MediaTek BTIF controller.

MediaTek BTIF controller is the serial interface similar to UART but it
works only as the digital device which is mainly used to communicate with
the connectivity module also called CONNSYS inside the SoC which could be
mostly found on those MediaTek SoCs with Bluetooth feature.

And the controller is made as being compatible with the 8250 register
layout so it tends to be integrated with existing 8250 core driver and
have no requirement for the modem configuration additionally such as the
baud rate calculation and assignment.

So arch/um now provides an ioremap() stub despite the absence of
CONFIG_HAS_IOMEM, but the respective devm_* interface from
lib/devres.c is not available.

We can either work around this for new drivers as we used to do for
ioremap() by adding a correct 'depends on HAS_IOMEM' Kconfig
dependency, or we could find a way for arch/um to provide stubs
for the additional functions as well.

When moving earlycon early_param handling to serial, the devicetree
earlycons enable condition changed slightly.

We used to only do that for 'console'/'earlycon', but now would also
for 'console='/'earlycon='.

Fix it by using the same condition like before.

Driver adds support of Aspeed 2500/2400 series SOC JTAG master controller.

Driver implements the following jtag ops:
- freq_get;
- freq_set;
- status_get;
- idle;
- xfer;

It has been tested on Mellanox system with BMC equipped with
Aspeed 2520 SoC for programming CPLD devices.
