Hi,

I am trying to get a SMP kernel to run on a particular UP machine, but I get
the message "An unexpected IO-APIC was found. If this kernel release is less
than three months old please report this to linux-smp@vger.kernel.org".  The
kernel boots OK but PCI devices don't work (presumably because of lost
interrupts).  To verify that the problem was not specifically SMP-releated,
I compiled a UP kernel with "Local APIC support on uniprocessors" and
"IO-APIC support on uniprocessors" turned on.  The same thing happened: I
got the "An unexpected IO-APIC was found" message on boot and PCI devices
didn't work.  I was initially using kernel 2.4.20 but also tried 2.4.21-pre6
with the same results.

There is an option in the BIOS to disable the APIC.  When I do this,
everything works fine.  However, this is not a good solution for me for
various other reasons that are not relevant here.

Any help or info on this would be greatly appreciated.
