Hello !
A newly set up 2.4.21 kernel wrote "An unexpected IO-APIC was found, ...".
The guilty computer is a P4 2.6 GHz on a Asus P4C800 motherboard, using
Intel 875 chipset.
SMP is turned on in order to use Hypertreading.
