I have a couple of old PII HP vectra machines with this sound card.

(Redhat 8.0)
Sndconfig will see it but the kernel module will not admit that the card
exists:
Nov 25 10:32:19 newthird kernel: ad1848/cs4248 codec driver Copyright
(C) by Hannu Savolainen 1993-1996
Nov 25 10:32:19 newthird kernel: ad1848: No ISAPnP cards found, trying
standard ones...

I tried to manually set the configuration via /proc/isapnp and set the
module parameters by hand via insmod (insmod ad1848 ioS4 irq=5 dma=1
dma2=3), it doesnt work.

Tried via sndconfig, still doesnt work...

Any ideas?

Here's the current output (after manually making the card activate in
isapnp) of /proc/isapnp:

You're sure it can be supported by ad1848?

Might be a simple matter of ISA pnp ids, but then again the ad1848 probe
should have picked it up regardless. What does /proc/ioports and
/proc/interrupts and dmesg say after the module load?

Pretty sure =) as far as i can tell via google (also, sndconfig by
default used ad1848, so it's listed somewhere)

first off, when i use sndconfig, this is the error it gives:
sndconfig says:
     # /lib/modules/2.4.18-18.8.0/kernel/drivers/sound/ad1848.o:
#
     # init_module: No such device
#
     # /lib/modules/2.4.18-18.8.0/kernel/drivers/sound/ad1848.o:
#
     # insmod /lib/modules/2.4.18-18.8.0/kernel/drivers/sound/ad1848.o
#
     # failed

#
     # insmod sound-slot-0 failed

when i insmod manually:

dmesg says:
ad1848/cs4248 codec driver Copyright (C) by Hannu Savolainen 1993-1996
ad1848: No ISAPnP cards found, trying standard ones...

its not listed under interrupts, but heres the output:

Could you please try this? Looking at your ioports it certainly does look
like an WSS compatible card. The patch is against 2.4.20-rc1-ac4 but if
you have trouble applying tell me which kernel you'd like it against.

Cheers,
	Zwane
