well i have tried some different things using kernel 2.0.34...i ended up
getting the oss drivers (the free download) and installing them. i then
used the info i got from cat /proc/snd i believe or something close to
this...and then configured the kernel driver to reflect the same and
recompiled...SOUND WORKED!!! so left it and removed the oss and alsa and
everything else....as i continued to use the sound however i notice that
it is very crappy. =) the only things i am running is an extremely basic
system and an lcd display manager program...(this computer is for a car
mp3 player) and yet i still get static when the hard drive is used. the
more processor i try to use the more static i get.... that is when i try
to run a couple medium size commands and sometimes multiple instances, i
get more static that if i just have the display running...and this is
the type of static that is not from interference from the HD, but the
type of static that results because the resources are not available (the
sound file starts to slow down and distort...) i am currently upgrading
to 2.0.36 so that i can also have better apm support so as to turn off
after a halt and i am trying to install the alsa sound drivers....i have
two problems that i will ask about in the next mail....
josh
