SoundBlasterPCI128

HI,
	I have a SoundBlaster PCI 128. Does linux have support for this.
Are there any drivers for this card, which I can download.
    
	I compiled the kernel with the sound as a module.
	The kernel could not detect the sound card.

CONFIG_EXPERIMENTAL=y
CONFIG_SOUND_ES1371=y or m

You need either 2.0.36 plus Alan Cox modular sound patch
or 2.2.pre

I downloaded the modular sound patch from Alan Cox's web site.
and applied it to kernel 2.0.36

I did a "make xconfig" and clicked on Sound.
( I also tried make config and make menuconfig)
I still could not find the ES1371 driver listed there.
I also looked in the .config file in the source tree.
It is not listed there.

I am bit reluctant to install the 2.2.pre kernel.
Since it is still under development I am worried it may do something tomy
harddisk.


If anyone has the source for the kernel with ES1371  driver pls. give me
a pointer to it.

I'm trying the same at the moment.
How did you apply the patch (and which, I read the
2.0.34-modular-3.patch.gz should me the safest...)?

Whenever I get the patch installed, I'm a step further!

	The source tree will have the patch applied now.
	Then you need to do a make clean, make config, make dep, make zImage
and use the boot image to load a new kernel.

kernel configuration options. So I did not even make the kernel.

I guess we need help from some one who has successfully done this before.

You need to enable CONFIG_EXPERIMENTAL

Thanks. I guess I had the wrong patch (2.0.36*patch*) applied.
That's why the ES1371 driver did not show up.
THe 2.0.34*patch* has the ES1371 driver.

I have one more problem.
I have slackware dirstribution of LINUX which has gcc2.8
I guess to compile the 2.0.36 kernel with the patch applied
we need gcc2.7. I could not compile the kernel with my version
of gcc2.8. 
Is it possible or valid to apply the patch to a newer version of the kernel
source say 2.1.99 ? Will this compile with gcc2.8

linux detects on my Creative SoundBlasterPCI128 a ES1370 and it works!
So do not concentrate too much on the ES1371, better try the Modules
ES1370 AND ES1371, then you'll see, what the sndconfig detects after
booting with the new Kernel.
