Hello, again...

Yesterday, I asked for opinions on the SB Live! card.  *Lots* of negative
feedback on that one, so I'm still looking for a card for my new machine.

Any thoughts on the Turtle Beach cards?

For background information:  I use my machine to do multi-track recording
under Linux.  My recordings are later burned to CD, so I'm in no need of
fancy digital outputs on the card or anything.  I just need a nice clean
input, don't really need MIDI at all, and want the capability to do good
full duplex operations.  I had been using an AWE64 previously, but didn't
like the scratchy quality of the 8-bit playback I got while recording
16-bit input during a mutlitracking session.

Hi,

I use a TB Fiji with digital in and out, which seems to do pretty well
(although there are some quirks). I don't really use it for
multitracking; the only mt application I've managed to get to work is
SLab, and though I think that's a great piece of software, it's more
geared to recording sessions than to the kind of compositional
multitracking I want to do (in the manner of ProTools, Cool Edit Pro
etc, i.e. with lots of editing over many tracks).

But I have used it for development work with Miller Puckette's PD, and
for this it does full duplex at 16bit 44.1k with no problems. The only
drawbacks with the card and its Linux drivers I would say are: 1) MIDI
input/output seems to work for a while, then gives up; 2) I'd like a
mixer application which lets me switch between digi and non-digi input,
and also which lets me set the sample rate - I have to use a couple of
little self-hashed scripts and programmes to do these things. I suppose
I should write a mixer app myself!(oh to have the time).
