This doesn't use an email based contribution process, so please send a
pull-request via github.

Not sure how useful a FEX file for an H6 based device is anyway, but I
guess it doesn't hurt...

Ah, I see. Unfortunately those instructions are somewhat outdated. I don't
think sunxi-boards is really maintained anymore, at best FEX files are
somewhat irrelevant for mainline, even Allwinner seems to have dropped
that ball many years ago.

Yeah, I see that it proposes to send a patch to the list. Which is
somewhat pointless, as it's a github based repo, so it should follow that
process there.

For that old tablet I think you can push the FEX file, via a Github PR,
though I don't know many people care about this still.
If your aim is to run (mainline) Linux, you would need a devicetree file
anyway. You can use the information in the FEX to create or generate one.

So what did you try yet? I think the most complete A10 tablet in 
mainline is probably sun4i-a10-topwise-a721.dts, as this describes both 
the panel and touch.
You should copy that file, then go through it and check if you can find 
the respective settings in the FEX file.
For instance it looks like the touchscreen is the same, also using the 
same parameters like I2C address and interrupt, so you can keep that. SD 
card (MMC0) and UART0 also looks the same.
If in doubt comment or remove other nodes in the DT, then give it a try, 
to see how far you come. I'd recommend using serial, as this has a much 
higher chance of success or at least some output.

Are you sure? I think most devices boot from SD card if they find the 
right magic sector on it, bypassing internal boot media like NAND or 
eMMC. So what have you tried, exactly? You would need to build a U-Boot 
image, then "dd" that to sector 16 of an SD card. If you have serial 
connected, that should already give you some output, even without the DT 
being fully correct.

Please provide more details like the .dts that you created so far if you 
need more help.

I did realise yesterday that the A721 is quite similar but could not
try compiling for that, but I will do that right away.

As for booting, I did follow instructions here:

And created 2 partitions and wrote the images, but when I tried to
boot, it went to android instead. I then tried using sunxi tools to
boot over USB using the same boot image, in which case the screen
flashed white for one second and then went dark. From lsusb on the
terminal I saw that the device is still in FEL mode so assumed that it
has not booted into u-boot.

As for serial access, I have not done that yet as it would require
soldering on the back of the board, so I am looking to avoid that.
