For starters, try running something more modern.

2.5.70 is the latest which has a patch that applies cleanly and where the
kernel still compiles, that i have found. if anyone has luck with a 2.5
series kernel/patch newer than this, pointers would be appreciated.

I've released patches for every recent 2.6.0-test kernel which compile and run.

2.6.0-test3-1 applied cleanly to 2.6.0-test3 for me. However, the defconfig
didn't compile. I had to disable some options (e.g. CONFIG_MODULES).

when I'm talking to journalists I just say "programmer" or something like that.
