mac80211 breaks suspend to disk

Hi,

I finally managed to track down a rare hang on resume from disk I see
for some prolonged time.
Symptoms are that sometimes on resume, system almost hangs.
This is I can switch VTs and execute SysRQ sequences.
This is typical when oops happens.

I tracked this to BUG_ON in add_timer.
I replaced this with WARN_ON, and here is the backtrace:

Now, how the ifmgd->timer could still be pending I have no idea yet, it seems to be explictly
del_timer_sync'ed and timer routine also checks this condition, and doesn't restart itself....

Also note that this was seen happening both on resume, and when the suspend image is written (sort of resume too).

Quick glance suggest some hole in the management of the
TMR_RUNNING_CHANSW bit?

I guess no, I have futher information.

I forgot to pay attention to few lines before the oops message:

This reveals that somehow the ieee80211_sta_work manages to run before ieee80211_sta_restart and it sets the timer....

looking at ieee80211_reconfig it seems suspicious that 'local->suspended = false;' is set so early.
In fact it is set again to false just prior to 

list_for_each_entry(sdata, &local->interfaces, list) {....

So, I would suspect some lines in this function trigger the work queue.

Seems reasonable?

Indeed.

No, I doubt it, it's most likely just receiving a frame to trigger the
function -- ieee80211_sta_rx_mgmt queues the work. If we were still
suspended then we'd run into an error situation, like the comment in
ieee80211_reconfig explains ...

Catch-22.

Then again, we drop RX frames while local->suspended is true, and I
guess we don't really care about missing a few more frames when we're
just waking up, so it should be OK to keep suspended == true while doing
the startup.

EXCEPT drivers are going to start using ieee80211_queue_work() already
then from the callbacks, which we must allow.

So ... maybe this?

This will likely fix this problem.
I will run my suspend/resume loop for a while and let you know if it
works.

Thanks. I'll take another look at the code to see if there's another
code path that could now end in warnings, but I don't think so.

I suppose you could reduce your AP's beacon interval to make it more
likely to trigger.

Other that that, I got few freezes, this time with no feedback whatsoever, blank screen, thus very likely something different.
Might be nvidia proprietary driver fault too.

You're using 3945 it seems, this kind of warning happens when it doesn't
do the scan notifications properly. I'd look at 3945 for this one.

And after removing acpi global lock that protects access to EC on my
system, but somehow ether isn't released, or I don't know what, my
system just survived 280 s2disk cycles, with everything enabled.
