Hello,
in the recent kernels I sometimes got the following allocation failure. It is
provoked by ifconfig wlan0 up. I have machine with 2GB RAM and 1.5GB of swap
(99% free). It happens if I start netbeans (which takes fair amount of memory)
and keep running netbeans whole night (so that updatedb and slocate are woken
up).
My question is why this happens? According to Jiri Slaby, this should not
happen. I'm also attaching vmstat and slabinfo.

similar with 2.6.25-rc3-git7 not a regression. happens for me since
early merge of iwlwifi after several resume and suspend cycles + mem
pressure.

Jiri Slaby suggested that the iwl driver should not try to alloc 64kB (=
order
4) using kalloc but vmalloc should be used instead. While not understan=
ding
iwl driver internals, I cannot say whether it can be replaced per se.

Actually I've already posted the patch that fixes allocation. It' just
not in rc2

unfortnately, it does not fix my allocation failure as that failure is =
caused
by kmalloc allocation tx_queue which is struct size * TFD_QUEUE_SIZE_MA=

large.

Okay I will post one more fix that should restart flow.
Anyhow I think this is all caused but dma allocation changes see this thread.
